The latest from the dealer is that it might be the "waste gate actuator" as the valve appears to be jammed shut. On another similar model they can push it open with their fingers but on mine it is solid. If so it will be a new turbo. I am still waiting for their final verdict and the cost...

Thanks for that. I did have a fuel pump replaced a couple of months ago when it started having difficulties starting. We shall see although looking on bulletin boards this is not an uncommon problem. Keep you informed when I get some news next week.
