It may seem silly but take a look at your auxillary belt. I have a 1999 td5 and when my belt snapped it jerked a few times on the motorway and then went on the 3rd time..

1999 with 124 k.. had a new fuel pump in the tank at 123k. New front prop at 120 k. Before me its its had 2 new injectors, egr blanking, and major gaskets changed. It takes a good turning over on a cold start but i think thats expectable from a direct injection vehicle. Other than that...
