    Drain and fill

Which description matches the picture I posted before, so it looks like I'm not far off on my educated guesses. Thanks.

    Drain and fill

Yup, as mentioned in my first post I have one of those, seemingly on the transfer box (my gearbox geography is still a little shakey). The drain on the main gearbox appears to be a normal bolt type. Drains on the diffs look like square socket holes, as do the fill plugs. Can I just put my...

    Soft back.New purchase

Never tried it on a landy canvas, but lanolin does a good job on canvas tarps. You can get special canvas waterproofing/preservation products, but they tend to be expensive and stink of chemicals in my view. I've seen somewhere (don't recall where) someone suggesting using linseed oil. DON'T...

    Drain and fill

Oh, one more thing... The man in Halfwit...er... Halfords told me which oil to get if I wanted EP90. (picture attached) Since I trust the man in Halfords about as far as I can physically throw my landy, can someone please confirm, or otherwise, whether he was right? Thanks :)

    Drain and fill

So, I'm looking to drain and refill my gearbox, transfer box and both diffs this weekend. In another thread Nitemare gave me details of what I need to do but since my Haynes manual is bloody useless for showing me where the drain and fill plugs are I wanted some confirmation tha, what I think is...

    What does that do?

Light dawns... Literally. It was indeed the interior lights. I had changed the bulbs but hadn't realised there was a bad electrical connection in the light unit itself as well as an isolator switch on the light unit. Having repaired the wiring and de-isolated the unit it all works swimmingly :)...

    Where's my 4WD?!?

That thought has indeed occurred to me and is basically my plan. The next thing I need to do is figure out how the hell to get to the main gearbox fill plug. Then I'll work on the diffs (same problem). A workshop manual has a very prominent space on my Christmas list :D

    What does that do?

The fog light turns out to be on a different switch. Which means I did at least solve the mystery of what the other unmarked switch I have does :D
  9. M

    What does that do?

OK, I've done some more investigation and basically I'm none the wiser. I have no interior lights, it doesn't light the dash, or any of the other excellent suggestions people have made. If it does anything, then I'm guessing the bulb has gone for whatever it is. So, I'm not going to worry about...

    What does that do?

Well, there's nothing wrong with the fog light bulb and assembly as far as I can see and it definitely doesn't light up when that is pulled. Of course I can't find anything that lights the fog light, so it may just be that the fault lies between the light unit and the switch somewhere :S

    What does that do?

Ah! Fog light. I do have one but pulling that doesn't turn it on. So perhaps the bulb has gone. Will go check. Thanks for the suggestions!

    What does that do?

OK, I've tried looking and can't find any explanation of my series 3 dash, which is fine as most things make perfect sense. Let's face it, there's not exactly a bewildering array of toys on there. However one thing has got me stumped and I've been unable to trace it from the back of the dash to...

    Nurse, please take my temperature

Ah, OK, so it's a personal preference thing? Either will be fine, but most people go for the 82. Makes sense. I don't actually have much problem with my heater, though I will likely overhaul it at some point. Even had to have the window open when driving it today as I was getting too warm. The...

    Nurse, please take my temperature

Yes, I'm back with another question :) A quick and simple one this time. I'm going to replace the thermostat as mine is seized open. But the temperature stamp on the top is no longer visible. An extensive google search seems to suggest that I need an 82c one, but the 74c one also seems to be...

    Where's my 4WD?!?

WOOHOO!!! All done. New FWH installed successfully and I've been out to test the 4WD. Works as expected, awesome! Thanks to Nitemare and everyone else on here who've been so patient and helpful. Very very much appreciated. Now, on to fixing the thermostat, the temperature sender, the lock on...

    Where's my 4WD?!?

See, I knew I must be being stupid somewhere along the line! Thanks all, very much appreciated. I am very tempted to go out there now and try this, but I think that's too much beer and too little sleep talking so I'll wait until the morning. I will get better at this, promise!
  18. M

    Where's my 4WD?!?

Nope you were right, they are definitely 24 spline and the new FWH are definitely for a series 3. That's why the confusion! Oh, intermediate splines.... So there are splines over the normal splines? I've stripped nothing at all off the shafts. DOH! I have no idea how to undo the round...

    Where's my 4WD?!?

Ah, that explains it, thanks Nitemare will bear that in mind for the future. Any ideas about my hub issues? Parts required? Potential solutions? etc? One thought did occur, which is likely stupid but I've had beer and haven't proved overly bright up to this point... Is it possible that the...

    Where's my 4WD?!?

One question about your picture Nitemare, why have you got 4 axle stands under there? Surely one under each of the leaf springs, the inner pair in your picture, would suffice?
