    Gone into storage!

I have a 1994 300Tdi and have found myself having to put my Landy into storage. I have just lost my licence again because of problems I'm having with epilepsy and it will mean the car being layed up for at least 12 months. What I want to know is are there any things I should probably be doing...

    Oil cooler pipe

I'm yet to get my head round this job. These things always seem simple until it comes to doing them. I don't have a ramp or a pit and it looks like the oil filter end of this pipe is not exactly in an easy to get to sort of place, let alone try and spot o rings etc. I have spoken to a...

    Oil cooler pipe

Thanks Dent. I will be as careful as I can and will heed your advice re. not overtightening.

    Oil cooler pipe

Thanks for the rapid replies lads. I'm going to a local agricultural supplier shortly to see if they can repair it. I understand they make up hydraulic pipes.

    Oil cooler pipe

I am off on a very long journey on Monday (1500 miles) and have just discovered I have an oil leak on the oil cooler pipe that goes from the top of the radiator to the rear of the oil filter housing. I have a 1994 300Tdi and I am just a little concerned that this may get worse quickly. The leak...

    Why so much smoke??

Funny enough I bought my 300Tdi off ebay 18 months ago and it had very similar problems. Mine turned out to be a timing belt issue. The previous owner told me he had had the timing belt replaced 5000 miles prior to me buying it. What he didn't tell me was that he had it replaced by some cowboy...

    One shot grease.

Thanks for that I'll get a couple on order then.

    One shot grease.

Ok folks I think the grease option is maybe the wisest way to go. You've convinced me. I do infact have a drain plug on the swivels so whatever is in them should drain ok. They are also leak free and the balls are smooth. I see one of you mentions sachets of grease. I think Paddocks sell...

    One shot grease.

Thanks Big Lad. You have certainly given me something to mull over. The last time I looked at my swivel balls they were nice and smooth with no leaks, however I live in a very salty atmosphere and cars really suffer here so I don't expect they will stay that way. If the bleed nipples are there...

    One shot grease.

I ordered myself a 500ml syringe to make it easy to put new oil in both the axles and swivels. I will probably use that to suck the crappy stuff out of the swivels if there aren't any nipples in them. Thanks for the replies.

    One shot grease.

Ah, I've not checked if the bleed nipples are there. If not then how would you change the oil, or was leaving bleed nipples off supposed to prevent changing the oil? Even if the nipples are there, I haven't yet checked to see if the previous owner has already used one stop grease. I was...

    One shot grease.

If this appears to be the way forward then I will give it a go. Thanks for the reply mate.

    One shot grease.

I'm just about to attempt a change of oil in my axles and swivel pins. I've been looking at Paddocks site and I see they do stuff called one shot grease for the swivel pins. I want to do the best for the car so can anyone tell me what is best for the swivel pins, oil or grease. I assume if...

Is anyone near this place in Scotland?

Thats fine buddy. All these places seem to charge way over the odds for postage. I face it a hell of a lot with living where I do. Anyhow I hope it works out and you manage to save a few bob.

Is anyone near this place in Scotland?

This maybe of no help to you, but here goes. First of all can anyone tell me how far Castle Douglas is from Ecclefechan. In mid-August I'm travelling down from Orkney via Aberdeen to Devon and will be stopping in a B&B near Ecclefechan. I will then travel onto Derby, stay there for a couple...

    vibration

Thought I'd mention a problem I had some 20 years ago that I had on a 110. It also caused vibration and it wasn't until you mentioned the handbrake that it came back to me. It turned out that my handbrake was binding and it was most evident when I dipped the clutch. I had the handbrake serviced...

    vibration

I have a 1994 300 Tdi that I have recently put a new front prop shaft on because I had a severe vibration coming from under the car. The shaft has a slight telescopic action on it to allow for the movement of the axle. In my case this telescopic action had completely seized and with there being...

    Disco struggling to tow

I also agree with CharlesY. I regularly tow a 3ton + trailer with my 300Tdi Discovery which makes my combined weight in excess of 5 tons and it don't go no where fast. On a dual carriageway 50 is attainable, but its more comfortable at 45 especially when its livestock I'm towing. It will sit...

Great for escaping from the police but...............

Thats where things are different on yours to mine. I was having problems starting and when it did start it belched white smoke out of it. What actually caused my problems was the guy that owned it before me had the timing belt changed by some cowboy. I can't remember which it was, but it was...

Great for escaping from the police but...............

I started a thread about a year ago called "white smoke". If you do a search for it you will see what I had to say. I was actually getting white smoke pouring out of the exhaust especially when I de-cellerated. In my case it turned out to be a timing belt issue. As I say search "white smoke" I...
