Nice job mate. But one tip for anyone else tempting this is not to fill it with water but just block one pipe off & put air into it .Then submerge it in water & this will find any pin hole leaks aswell. still a nice job mate not having a dig.

Depends if all the tubes in the core are frozen & if they are seemed tubes or solid tubes. seemed tubes are more prone to leeking

They are attached to the oil cooler inside the tank so the only way to recover it would be to take the tanks off. The tanks are brass so they wont be rusty . £160 ? whats that to do?:eek:

The adaptors on the rad will be brazed on to the oil cooler inside the tank so the only way to recover these adaptors is to remove the tank off the rad remove the oil cooler & place in new rad. That cant be right can it ?.Or am i missing something here ?:confused:

Sounds to me like someone has put the wrong oil cooler in the rad when it was built.

you can get a new plastic tank & gasket

Has the rad got damaged or rotten fins ? bottom left hand side ? putting a hose through the rad wont clear blocked tubes as they will be solid. It would need both the end tanks taking off & the tubes gently sworded to remove the crap then flushed through after.

what are the pipes made of? aluminium , copper ?

not to far then im in leicester. if ever you want me to check it over give me a shout mate. run some air through it

most rad places will say you need a new rad if its aluminium because the older copper brass ones were / are easy to repair. I use a special glue that runs like solder just for aluminium cores . where you at ?

i cant believe he couldnt give you a price on the spot after seeing the leak. did he say wher abouts on the rad it was leaking from? core or tanks?

It would be cheaper to re core it as you already have the tanks etc. Im in leicester . If its the copper/ brass rad it wont take no longer than an hour to swap tanks over.

pity you cant get it off & to me id pressure test it for you.

Im with you now mate. I can find out for you how much a new core is . Then if you get it over to me i can strip your old tanks off & fit them on the new core for you. pressure test it & paint it . Are we talking the copper core with brass tanks?

could a small stone have shot up off the road & punchered a tube on the front of the rad ?

where about are you mate? aluminium cooler i guess? If you can get it to me ive got the stuff to repair it.

We use a product at work for repairing aluminium oil coolers etc. It is heat cured so the lack of space would be a problem. At £104 a tube it aint cheap though:eek:
