    Six speed gearbox TD5?????????

I have seen some overdrive units for Defenders, you might be able to fit one... Failing that I think the new Defender will have 6 gears and you could do a conversion job maybe?!? The term "Non-trivial" comes to mind. ;)

    Another silly one

    Ditto, towing electrics. ;)

New Owner needs a little help

Hi Soul, I think my approach would be to get a 12v bulb and a safety pin. Attach some wire, quite a few feet to the bulb and attach the earth to the battery. Now stick the pin into the insulation of the wire taking power through the bulk head and basically work your way along the wiring loom...

Fitting new starter motor 2.25 petrol

I have this nagging thought in the back of my head that the first starter motor I bought for my landie didn't fit either... but this is about 12 years ago. I would check, with paddock they are the same. It would be typical of landrover to upgrade to a part that was not compatible! ;)

maiden voyage gone bad, engine gone t**s up...

Oh Keef.... Get a Series driver of some experience to teach you the ropes of driving off-road. If you listen to your Coiler mates you may be a bit to gentle with the the old bird. They like it a bit firmer than the young uns'.... ;) The series school of driving is a different art to the...

maiden voyage gone bad, engine gone t**s up...

Well a Disco owner would say don't think of it, but to be fair... :p My SIII did 18k a year until 2 years ago as my everyday car. It did the job fine and the only reason it retired was that the parts started being made in India and were not as good as the old ones. The gearbox recon guys warned...

Why not have sat nav in a series?!?! Although the reason given above does kinda make me loose the will to live! lol

maiden voyage gone bad, engine gone t**s up...

Generally Keef, you will find your old SIII will do most things the modern vehicles can do and get less damage from doing it! ;) Although a lot of folk will try to tell you how hopeless it is, whilst watching you do all the same things they do using diff locks and big engines. They have to...

maiden voyage gone bad, engine gone t**s up...

I knew the Discovery recovery points were hidden underneath for a reason!!! So you can turn it over and empty the cylinders through the injectors!!! At last recent Landrover design starts to make sense!!! So is that why they hide the spare wheel under there too?

    Tacka tacka noise...

Alas, not as light as I thought... following reabuilding the engine I got a phone call informing me that wasn't the whole problem. Turns out it was the cup for the cam follower, it had actually broken in half apparently. Next the challenge is to find the wee bits of hardened metal floating...

    Series 3 Tyres

Hehe... Yes 750's fit the same rims... they have a larger radius though... more rubber height! before you ask! ;)
  15. C

    Series 3 Tyres

OK Guys... settle down... :p The important point made here is that if you are on 750's you have to get your speedo changed. The 109 speedo should do it, but the stadard 88 speedo is the wrong ratio. The speedo converts the speed of the gearbox to the road speed. Bigger wheels, you change the...

    Series 3 Tyres

Hi Guys, Generally any MT tyre will wear quicker than an AT. The reason is that on an MT there is less rubber on the road, so they use softer compounds to make the tyre. This gives the benefit of making the tyre grip more on the road for less surface area. The problem is, it also makes the...

    A Dead Land Rover 2a

Hi, I agree 100%, the webber is much better engineered. I had one for a while, it did fail eventually but on the whole was a lot more reliable. The Zenith is a nice idea badly implemented (mainly due to "cost cutting"), but has the features needed... Alas all too common in Landrover products...

    Tacka tacka noise...

Hi Guys, It would seem we were all right the first time. I had to head off back to work in the SE of England, so I was forced to abandon my landie with the local landie expert in Scotland. He stripped down the top of the engine again and his first comment was that the rocker assembly was...

    Series 3 Tyres

If you are looking at new rims, I have 130 rims on mine. Fit beautifully, allow slightly wider tyres for peat bog plugging where there ain't no bottom! No change on turning circles or anything straight replacement. Not recommending or warning, just seemed possibly relevant... ;)

    Series 3 Cylinder heads...

Hi, I have a feeling that means the one with the tap is from a 3 bearing engine and the one without is a 5 bearing engine. I could well be wrong though... Expert in the field of cylinder head modifications and repair. Roland at Automotive Remanufacturing in Chester. 01244539196 I have one...
