I had a similar problem on my car where the key plip stopped working on my drive. I think it was due to interference from something else, as the car was fine round the corner and everywhere else. If I held the key up high, in line with the roof the plip worked a bit better. The issue went away...

I had that problem on my TD5. It was the throttle potentiometer. You'll have a 'Driver Demand' error if it's the throttle. The RAC were able to read this fault with their generic code reader. Fitted a new throttle, which was pretty easy, and all sorted.

My TD5 steering was vague and it turned out to be uneven wear on the front tyres. I swapped the fronts to the rears and all sorted. Yours sounds like there is more going on but tyres could be a contributing factor.

Try flicking the handle multiple times in quick succession with the finger tips. This may work. On mine I had a couple of chances with this until the lock failed. A new one from LR is about £50 and easy enough to fit. Cheers, Andy

The height sensors for the SLS could be all iced up. They are small plastic levers near the air bags.

If it's coming from the top of the box it could be just the gasket leaking on the cover plate. Mine was leaking from here and was sorted by some Lucas power steering stop leak. I'm not sure if the stop leak would harden the seals. It just looks like really thick oil to me. Cheers, Andy

What would be a decent winter spec tyre for the Discovery, that would be ok all year round? I don't think I need to go down the AT2 route as I never go off road. Just use my car for towing. Cheers, Andy
