    Sounds like a dodgy sensor to me, could be MAF/intake air temp sensor/ camshaft position sensor etc etc best to get a diagnostic done have you got a multimeter?? I have some info on how to test the sensors but you would need an electrical tester.

    Hi i'm new to Range rovers but my experience on other cars would indicate timing. Usually if a car backfires into the inlet side of things its because the timing is out.....i could be wrong and prepared to be corrected but if you checked everything else this could be something to look at.

    Thanks for all kind comments i managed to polish it up today and really shine the green up it looks great, the lads at work cant believe how little i paid and nor can i! its running great (touch wood) and getting about 26mpg which is a lot better than i was expecting. Thanks again

    Hi folks i looked at the pipes and the diaphragm, as above the diaphragm is great condition but pipes are all ripped and perished. Ive tried fitting new pipes (from spare pipe i have at home) but no joy, so is this likely to be my problem then because these pipes are perished?? I hope so...

    Right update i took it out for 2 hours drove it quite hard in places but also some very easy driving, i did every single check that has been put up on here and every check i did it passed with flying colours, the air sus reacts immediately to the button, no coolant loss and no mayo in filler...
