CV replacement, new vibration -- resolved

The parts supplier I bought the Britpart CV joints from is reimbursing me for them both, including shipping. The outfit's name is Landers Shop (link is to their English-language site). They're in the Paris area so I don't know how useful they'd be to most of you reading this post but between the...

Well, we're calling it the differential over here (as opposed to the "pont arrière", which is at the midpoint of the rear axle) and I thought that was the VCU. But now that I've read up a bit on how the VCU functions -- and see what the 'V' stands for  -- I reckon what I meant was the IRD.

CV replacement, new vibration -- resolved

Nodge et al, happy to report that after changing out the Britpart CV joints with second-hand OE parts, the vibrations have disappeared. I picked up the car from the garage who did the work Thursday afternoon and have since done some 150 km without any sign of anything amiss. Lesson learned I...

Sorry that didn't solve it but good to know.

CV replacement, new vibration -- resolved

That's what scares me the most about this whole business, that I may have damaged something else in the process. I'm already in over my head, the thought of having to go in further really makes me nervous. That's why I haven't been driving it, hopefully the few miles I have driven aren't enough...

Thanks Nodge. Really should have done my homework before starting this project! Well live and learn I guess.

Thanks Nodge. What are "pattern" shafts? Copies maybe? Here's hoping my vibrations are gone when next week I install the used OE drive shafts I've lined up.

No, mine is not lifted. It's as standard as it gets. I am not sure how the lift would be configured so I can't really comment on your theory. For me the current project is something of a stretch for me, I've really no idea whether my parts are faulty or whether I may have committed an error...

    Vibration at slow speed

Just came across this post. I've got a very similar vibration happening after replacing my CV joints with after-market shafts (see my recent post). I'm planning to pull them back out next week and stick in second-hand OE shafts, but did you ever find out what your vibrations were?

CV replacement, new vibration -- resolved

No, I haven't. I thought the same as you at first but these don't seem to have loosened up any after almost 100 km. To be honest I've been reluctant to use the vehicle, so it's mostly been sitting while I figured what to do next. What brand were they? I did look into getting the old ones...

Nodge, I appreciate the tip about GKN [edited]. Turns out they have a service center about 40 km from where I live, and they might be able to just rebuild my old ones. The fellow I need to see won't be there until Friday so I'll have to wait until then to know but this sure feels like the way to...

CV replacement, new vibration -- resolved

Greetings everyone, Got a head scratcher here. Freelander TD4 2002. 190k km. This weekend a friend and I replaced the CV joints and prop-shafts, ball joints, and discs and pads on both sides (lost a little oil from the tranny, didn't seem enough to worry about but am planning to have the box...

Freelander 1 yet another "won't start" thread '02 TD4 -- laid to rest for now

I was thinking of the pistons that apply lateral pressure to push the brake pads against the disk, maybe that's not the best term. Noted for the disks, nothing like new parts for peace of mind.

Besides, even at twice as expensive you're still not spending all that much considering what you'll have at the end. I guess turning the disks was not an option. ETA: did you replace the brake pistons too?
