hiya mate i personally would plumb for a capillary gauge as they are more accurate than an electric one , as for fitting it the normal way is to remove the oil pressure switch and screw in a tee piece which will take the pipe to your gauge and also allow you to retain the switch for your oil...

hiya richard , mine did exactly the same last summer and it was a faulty relay in the fuse box under the bonnet mate , easy to check just exchange the suspect relay with one that is not used very often i.e air con relay . mine was even running when everything was turned off only way to stop it...
