My old thermostat was stuck in the open position it looked like someone had jammed it open. I re did the test on the 2nd thermostat and put it in the pan then warmed it up bringing it boil and it opened just as it started to boil so i've fitted it. I fitted the 2nd thermostat, blew in the...

I tested the new one in a tub of boiling water direct from the kettle and it didn't open so dangled...

I got home while it was still light today so i did the sniff test with the block tester and the test liquid stayed blue so the new head gasket as done its job. Freelander engine problems

The fuel pump part number is usually on a sticky label on top of the pump, if you remove the lid hiding the pump under your rear seat you should be able to see the sticky label without removing the old pump.

It wasn't smoking white prior to removing the head, it was using oil though, theres white smoke to start then when it gets warm it lessens and looks like steam with drops of water. I replaced the valve guide seals with new ones, cleaned and lapped the stem valves, the head was skimmed, when...

I've got my cylinder head back on

I've got my cylinder head back on and the other bits refitted, i did the rave tightening sequence with 20Nm then 4 stages of 90 degrees. The new gasket stands out (shiney) and the gap between the block and head seems big compared to my old one, the new gasket maybe thicker, i'm paranoid that...
