Steel Seal - how good is it?

Mike if it's only the head gasket that needs changing you could do it yourself with a new head gasket set, depending on the one you choose between £50 -£100, you already said it's had a new coolant pump, cambelt and other bits so probably would be ok. The guys on here will help you through...

head gasket change was successfull after all.....just the muppets before wasnt.

To flush the radiator put your garden hose in the top opening and leave it running until you get a nice steady flow out of the bottom. I know you said your going to buy a new head but it may be worth trying to clear the blockage out of your old one when you take the head off use a power washer...

ok how the heck to you undo the crank nut

Think about it as two seperate jobs 1, changing the head gasket and refitting the head, 2, undoing crank nut when the head is back on to replace cam belt, tensioner and water pump. You can get a flywheel locking tool that bolts in place of the starter motor, makes undoing the crank nut...

new head gasket has failed:( help needed please

If the liners moved up when the head was off the seal will have broken letting water into the sump, from reading haynes it says the liners sit on ring of hylomar blue sealing the liner, this will now not be water tight. I've seen a k16 rover engine rebuild with new parts on another forum with...

new head gasket has failed:( help needed please

If the water level as only gone down by less than a cup there may be no problem it could be just the coolant pushing round the system and finding it's level, in the manual it says keep an eye on the coolant level once you've refilled and run the engine then top up if needed. Top up the coolant...

When you had the head off did you check it with a steel rule and feeler gauge to see if it was ok and didn't need skimming. First time freelander owner needs advice

My advice would be stay away from the dealers and get an haynes manual, download a copy of the rave manual, start reading the posts on here then it's time to start getting your hands dirty and you'll save on garage bills that soon start to add up owning a freelander.
