Disco II Air suspension – the definitive guide

First time I've heard of that as a fix! Any chance of posting some pics of what you did for the everyone to have a look at?

Not wishing to teach you to suck eggs at all, but I presume you've already checked every fuse in both fuse boxes for failures and blown fuses?

Disco II Air suspension – the definitive guide

From what you've described - the compressor has failed in part. I'd be digging out the receipt and taking it back to the main dealer for a replacement as a warranty issue if I were you - and quickly too before time runs out! Even if it has run out - if you've shelled out 400+ notes for a...

Disco II Air suspension – the definitive guide

It doesn't really matter. If it's mainly on-road, the ACE system outperforms springs/shocks any day of the week for body roll control. If it's mainly off-road, the height adjustable air suspension could be pretty damn useful and rides very smoothly indeed over the roughest of ruts.

Disco II Air suspension – the definitive guide

Because normal springs and shocks ride like an utter dog! The ACE suspension aid, and the cushioning of the airbags is a real joy - the system really isn't as bad as it seems, you just need to ensure that you fix leaks immediately so you don't turn a replacement bag into a replacement...

    18" hurricane tyre size?

Generally, I'd agree with you - particularly in respect of a number of younger mechanics failing to absorb the really crucial fundamental information - but they're not all bad! I'd expect this sort of YTS idiot in most marques garages, but I tend to find that Land Rover (very broadly speaking)...

Disco II Air suspension – the definitive guide

Nope - an exploding airbag is usually caused by a faulty height sensor, but you only need to replace the single bag that exploded and the height sensor on that side - replacing both sides is good practise if you're getting stiffed by your main dealer for a big bill, but not necessary. If you...

Disco II Air suspension – the definitive guide

Probably not, otherwise the "bad" bag would rise up to over-normal height and stay there. A basic test of whether a compressor works ok or not is to simply see if the Disco will go into off-road extended height mode - if you press the button and the car doesn't rise - the compressor's probably...

Disco II Air suspension – the definitive guide

NO! The compressor forms part of a sealed air system. If you remove the compressor, the airbags will deflate.... You won't be able to "plug/block" the very small airlines either to keep the air that's in the system in there, whilst you drive to your garage for diagnosis. Leave the compressor...

    18" hurricane tyre size?

Not always - the two leading independent Land Rover specialists in the Canterbury area - were, until relatively recently, Main Dealer mechanics at Barretts in Canterbury. There is experience and knowledge in there, but appreciate that there are some YTS type newbies too.... Still, if they didn't...

Disco II Air suspension – the definitive guide

From what you've described - it's almost certainly a dodgy ride height sensor! Firstly - DON'T let the air out of the system in the way that you suggest - bad move. It's fairly dangerous with all that weight waiting to drop down on you. If you're prepared to let air out in the way...

    18" hurricane tyre size?

Funnily enough - I'd rather pay a main dealer an extortionate hourly labour rate, than deal with people like this to get the information I need! (and that's saying something!)...

    18" hurricane tyre size?

Sorry Saint - but I cannot agree. Being called a C**K and a FU**ING MORON - is unacceptable bullying / trolling - the behaviour of an inadequate ne'erdowell with too much time on their hands. The whole point of a forum is to ask for help, and hope that someone will post a helpful reply. It is...

Thanks Stu - so helpful compared to that abusive lowlife Redhand.... his sort just shouldn't be involved in forums... (although that picture of a Hyena is surprisingly appropriate!). I don't think Data actually mentioned any numbers as I look back over the earlier post - and agree that the...

Disco II Air suspension – the definitive guide

You can't diagnose it like this - by just running a voltmeter on the input plugs. You need to get it to a local specialist that can analyse the stored and current fault codes. BUT, from what you've described, it does sound like the compressor has packed up - they are are a very common failure on...

Thanks for assuming that I haven't and posting this rather unhelpful post... It would have been better for you to have simply moved onto the next forum topic if you didn't know the answer....

    18" Hurricane Alloy Wheels - Can I fit 245 / 55 / 18 Wranglers?

Thanks - but I'm presuming that this is a gut feeling guess (like mine)? You're not a tyre fitter by chance are you? Isn't it 10mm narrower? i.e. 245 as opposed to 255? I just don't know how signficant that is though.....
