    Vibration when propshaft fitted

Sorry still no update, Winter in the North of Scotland not the place to be when laid out on the drive. Still running with the prop props/vcu removed. I am convinced that there is still a vibration on sorts without the props fitted. When the engine is around 1500 rpm (30 Mph-ish) it can feel as...

    Vibration when propshaft fitted

Not at the moment, every thing I tried didn't make a difference. I've been working away for a while and don't have the vehicle with me. No doubt I'll be pulling my hair out again before long. Cheers

    Vibration when propshaft fitted

Thanks Micky, Already checked this, both sections have two weights on then and I can't see any witness marks if others had been fitted. I f only it had been that easy lol.

    Vibration when propshaft fitted

No unfortunetly not, I just re-read my post, what it have said was a rear prop, still thought it was a good price incfluding postage in the scheme of things. I did ask at the LR dealer if they had a set kicking about that could be used for diagnosing but surprisingly not. Will let you know how...

    Vibration when propshaft fitted

Chaser, I don't know anybody with another Freelander but have just bought a used one from a dealer on Ebay for £34, I'll slave that in either it will cure the fault or failing that I can put it back on Ebay. Chaser/Singvogel, I managed to get the rear prop off tonight before the snow...

    Vibration when propshaft fitted

Car back from the LR dealer, what a waste of time, lighter to the tune of a fair few hundred quid for them to give me the car back exactly the same. I gave them the car with the front prop off (see last post) They changed the front VCU bearing as this made a different noise to the rear one, test...

    Vibration when propshaft fitted

Cheers for that, I did give the drive shafts a tug earlier on when the wheels where off the ground and it didn't seem to move a great deal. Will bear it in mind though. Cheers

    Vibration when propshaft fitted

Front prop removed today and vibration still there although not as bad (same thing happened with the rear removed and front fitted) I'm assuming that either the bearings have been damaged or are still out of alignment or its a problem with the VCU? Will let you know. Front Gaiter was split as...

    Vibration when propshaft fitted

Pheewwww, that was a relief, thought you may have said that it was a big no no. I'll have a go at that today and see what the result is, may save me a few quid before it hits the main stealers. Thanks Chaser.

    Vibration when propshaft fitted

Hello, I took the rear propshaft off and left the rest connected. You're gonna tell me I shouldn't have done that aren't you? hope not anyway (nervous lol)

    Vibration when propshaft fitted

Hi and thanks for the input. During past couple of days I have tried to realign the VCU bearings and moved round the postion of the rear prop. No difference noticed. Today I removed the rear prop and took it out for a test, same problem around 40 mph but not as loud, assume this will be due to...

    Vibration when propshaft fitted

Abelaston, that makes sense when i think about it, the two invidual shafts are balanced giving an overall balance no matter the postion of fitting and the VCU is constantly changing postion. The only thing to mess up the balance would be the Bearings/VCU/CV joint. I did actually take off the...

    Vibration when propshaft fitted

Thanks again fellas. I'm going to have another look at it tomorrow starting with the alignment of the bearings again; failing that I the only other thing i can think of is that maybe the cv joint was damaged when the garage removed the propshaft or they have bent one of the shafts.

    Vibration when propshaft fitted

Guys ,I only mentioned that there are two schools of thought, I'm sitting on the fence at the fence at the moment. If I had taken off the shaft I think I would have marked it up along the lines of everything has gone back in the same place. I can also understand that a new shaft going on to the...

    Vibration when propshaft fitted

Thanks for the replies so far. The bearing have been replaced with new eye watering LR ones. I don't know if the shaft had been marked up, From the forums there seems to be two schools of thought over this. The Propshafts do still have the balance weights on them.

    Vibration when propshaft fitted

Hi all. I would appreciate any ideas over a problem that my 2005 TD4 has developed. The original problem was a clunking from under the drivers seat when turning at slow speed, after getting some good tips off the site I discovered both VCU bearing shot, I had these replaced by a local garage...

    Non Dealer workshop

Hi Mike, Thanks for the information, sounds like Dunphail is the best option. I need a service and x2 propshaft bearings replacing. I'm away until the end of the month so will pay them a visit then. Thanks again, Paul.

    Non dealer workshop

Hi all, Can anybody recommend a non dealer workshop for my TD4 Freelander in the Morayshire area. I stay in Lossimouth and would appreciate any recommendations for workshops that are clued up with Land Rover. I realise that there is a dealer close but want to avoid the hourly rate. Thanks
