    Buying a Freelander2 - advice needed

I suspect Ted's advice is somewhat worrying to someone just about to buy a Freelander - however I suspect Ted's tales of woe lie with a petrol model Freelander 1? I'd hazard a guess that FL2 TD4 (if that's what you're looking at) will be much more reliable. I've heard some stories about haldex...

    MPG TD4 Auto

I don't think you're alone here - mine's not that great either and I do notice it gets progressively worse as the weather gets colder - could be down to increased load on the engine from fan/window demister and FBH. I keep mine well serviced and tend to get around the 28-30 mark for my trip to...

    Freelander HID Kits. Any feedback?

Yup think I'll be avoiding them as the dipped beam - however - any thoughts on whether HID's could be suitable for main beam or fogs? I mean main beam is gonna dazzle oncoming drivers whether it's halogen or HID - so is there any harm in having full beam HID's? I did mention before about start...

    The strangest thing (speakers)

Nothing wierd about Freebies getting wet:D Seriously tho I've encountered corroded door speaker contacts in every door of mine - fortunately the speakers have remained intact so far - but I guess it's only a matter of time before I have to start replacing. Perhaps I should look into those...

    Air con horrible grinding noise

Yup - sounds very familiar - check under driver side wheel arch & underbelly panel area - likelihood is that a bit of plastic has got caught - easy fix but as bonny says - avoid using it until cleared. Norbet

    Freelander HID Kits. Any feedback?

I'm sure I've read somewhere about these aftermarket kits being illegal and that cars fitted with may not pass the MOT - shame really as I travel down many a dark country road and would love to have better visibility. On the matter of whether they're ok to fit as main beam - I'm not sure -...

Noise from fan! Just when it was going so well..

A slight one I would think - I'd imagine that running a/c would have more of an impact on smaller cars with smaller engines. If it's of concern switch back to non-windscreen settings once the screen is clear - keeping your screen clean also helps - see seperate thread on de-misting in winter...

    That's what the forum's for! You're welcome!:D

Noise from fan! Just when it was going so well..

Well I didn't get right underneath to check it out, I just reached in on the offside (drivers) where I suspected the noise was coming from and got lucky - I suspect that one of the bolts that holds the panel up at the back may have become loose (after hitting the water hard) and that part of the...

Noise from fan! Just when it was going so well..

I suspect it's just a piece of plastic that's catching on the a/c belt/pulley - I didn't need to remove or unbolt the underbelly panel - just reached under and pulled it back down. If it's not the underbelly panel then something else is caught in the pulley/belt. I've heard of a cat being caught...

Noise from fan! Just when it was going so well..

Yup this exact same thing happened to me after driving through a huge great big puddle (insert freelander & water jokes here). You'll get the same noise if you press the a/c button with the fan on. Not to worry if it's the same as mine it's a really easy fix, it's likey to the the underbody...

    Freelander FBH webasto

Splendid - many thanks - I'll get the remote kit ordered and will have a go once it arrives. Ideally I'd like to be able to have a remote/timer combo - so that I can switch on remotely and after certain period of time for it to go off again (in case I inadvertantly press the button or forget...

    Freelander FBH webasto

Darren, I may be interested in the timer/remote side of things - not sure if you've sold the entire kit or not, but even if you have I'd be interested to know how you got the remote activation going? Basically my FL has the FBH & I'd like to be able to remotely activate it say about 15-20 mins...

    Bleeding brakes!

Yeah tried the grips and this only led to further rounding - although fairly easy to get to, the bleed screws on the FL drums are a bit tricky to undo - couldn't get a socket or closed spanner around it (which I'd have used in the first place). I suspect this will be a case of having to remove...

    Bleeding brakes!

Recently attempted bleeding the brakes on my 04 TD4 - managed to do one of the rears and the two fronts with no problems, howvever one of the rear drums the bleed screw would not budge and began rounding off on the spanner. Didn't want to attack it with blow torch for fear of rubber component...

    Diver Side Speaker Problems

I've found that miosture tends to get to these speakers - with mine it was a case of corosion around the terminals which I was able to clean off - did the job, but if the speaker cones have been damaged then it may be a case of replacement of the whole speaker. Awaits humorous comments on...

    Air con - stuck on?!

Or check that the switch isn't on windscreen position - a/c runs continuosly when in that position and fan on. By the way, putting a/c on doesn't make a noticable drop in engine revs on my TD4.

    TD4 Auto Transmission Fluid Change

Right this was something I didn't fancy DIYing, so have paid £75 to have autobox oil changed - independent LR specialist job & got them to check diff and IRD levels while at it. Now on collecting the vehicle (garage had closed so couldn't discuss) there seems to be a slight problem - just want...

    A/C Problems - Grinding Noise TD4 04

You might just have hit the nail on the head there OP - it sounds very much like something's rubbing against plastic (and interestingly varies in intensity depending on what angle the car is at). I'll have a look this evening and see if I can see anything where it shouldn't be. Cheers N

    A/C Problems - Grinding Noise TD4 04

Yup - only grinds when clucth is engaged - sounds like a tricky, but do-able DIY job - thanks for that Ed. Norbet
