    Freelander headlight upgrade facelift

That part is definitely true - not sure of if, or when they changed to it, but my 04 model definitely uses CAN-BUS.

    Brake Bleed Nipple

Yeah this one's had me in the past - got 3 out of four done and the drivers side rear just didn't want to budge. Gave up in the end as spanner was rounding it off - will just change the cylinder when the rear shoes need doing. Incidentally what's the life expectancy on the rear shoes? I've had...

    tailgate window

Nice one - would I be right in assuming just normal solder? As it the type used for plumbing? Is this strong enough? It's only a matter of time before it happens to mine so would be keen to hear how it's done like this.

Alternatives to the factory fit Sat Nav?

Yup DIN standards apply to height & width - but not depth and it's likely that mounting points may differ across equipment. In my experience there's usually slight gaps that can look unsightly - sometimes surrounding trim kits are supplied to finish off. I think there are ISO standards for...

Alternatives to the factory fit Sat Nav?

Not a bad idea! I'm sure it could be done, but there could be some pitfalls to be aware of (esp if buying off ebay). Wiring schemes could (are likely to) be completely different and it may or may not be compatible with the existing GPS antenna. The FL1 Becker unit has a speed sense wire and...

Alternatives to the factory fit Sat Nav?

As far as I'm aware the Becker unit was top of the line for the FL1. The space that you see below for coins and general crap is filled on some later models (53 plate onwards) by a double DIN size cd player available in single or multi disc options (very similar to those found in Mondeos). So I...

Paranoid about the VCU - the line test

Easy mistake to make - I did it too - consulted rave guide and was soon back on track. Useful pic for others though - good man!

    Wheel alignment

Right so if I read this correctly my front wheels can be aligned independently of the rears? The car's not been involved in an accident or anything, the rear tyres wear evenly. I suspect it's a kerb job, and that might have thrown it out slightly. I'll probably go with one of the...

    Who frickin designed this?!?!?

I feel your pain - just changed the oil on mine - my the mod to the undertray was to simply cut a hole in it where the sump plug is - no flaps or anything complicated, but even getting the oil filter out as resulted in scraped knuckles! But if you've a late model TD4 just wait until you've the...

TD4 disc brakes on the L series Diesel

Not done this on an l-series myself though I'm sure it could be done - there may be wheel size issues to consider (i recall stories of people fitting new style wheels to older hubs and having calipers hit the wheels). Not sure if that'd be a problem here or if the hubs would require changing...

    Cd changer stc 53019

Might be worth your friend checking then - it may fit other head units. I think the phillips models have a round pin lead. The green button is behind the sliding panel on the changer.

    Cd changer stc 53019

If he has a Becker Nav unit - I think it should it should fit. Does it have a green button behind the panel and square connector on lead?

    Cd changer stc 53019

I think it fits the Becker Sat Nav unit - not sure if it fits others or not but I think that covers a number of MY's

    Vibration at 80+MPH

Personally I wouldn't class 80 (where the limit is 70) as overly excessive so not sure why anyone's got upset:confused: Try the wheel balancing it won't cost much - see how you go from there.

    Wheel alignment

Recently had uneven tyre wear on front wheels (TD4 Auto) - have replaced all four wheels and tyres with 16" down from 18" (was much cheaper*) and now want to check wheel alignment. LR Dealer says all four wheels must be aligned and wants £150+VAT  They did however rule out bush and track...

    18' Sport wheels on Freelander TD4 2001

Ah thanks for the clarification UC -knew there could be issues - didn't know which way around. But it sounds like should be ok for OP as the 18in wheels are 2003/4 onwards so should be fine for a 2001 model?

TD4 Auto in-gear acceleration causes judder...?

Hi Rob - clue could be in your sig? I don't know if it's a fault, but perhaps a symptom of having more power/torque than the transmission has been set up for? I have a ron synergy unit in my auto and it seems to like to hold on to the higher gear for longer before down shifting - easily...

    Egr Blanking Mod

Tried it this weekend with a 2p piece - slightly larger and 8p cheaper!;) Will check it again in a few weeks and see how it fairs.

    18' Sport wheels on Freelander TD4 2001

I seem to recall that it's not a good idea to put 2001 and newer wheels on the older pre 2001 models (they fit but can cause hub problems). If yours has the vented discs (which I imagine it has) then should be no problem - however brace yourself for replacement tyre costs!

What other wheels fit a freelander

The 18in ones on the 04 onwards models look the part - but be prepared for expensive tyre costs - 235 50 18's don't come cheap! I'm considering buying a set of 16in ones with the 215 65 16 tyres for "off road":p use! Incidentally anyone know if this will cause any probs?- I will of course change...
