How rusty is it? I ended up rebuilding the rear tub from new panels as it was pretty far gone.

Really only worth adding if you fit softer springs such as disco or range rover springs. Defender springs are too stiff for much body roll.

Change the lift pump on the side of the block if you have already tried the fuel filter. You could also try blowing out the fuel lines with an air hose in case there is a blockage restricting flow.

Personally I would use a Yank gearbox as they are stronger with large aftermarket support. There are adapters available to mate Chevrolet automatic and manual gearbox's to the Land Rover LT230 transfer box. Nothing wrong with the old small block 350 if you are on a budget, it should provide...

I used a second hand loom from a 1992 200tdi and took the opportunity to fit a new ignition barrel . I also purchased a new engine loom and timer relay/harness from autosparks for approx £100 altogether.

Just measured mine. Roughly 31 inches long 26 inches tall 61 inches wide When you consider a modern pickup is 73-76 inches wide, defenders are incredibly narrow.
