    head gakset? or summat else?

What you already did with your rad, but when you did that I assume you put water in through the input hose and let it drain through the output hose. I believe you just run the water through in the opposite direction the coolant word normally flow. (While searching for a solution to my own...

    head gakset? or summat else?

I'm having exactly the same mysterious overheating problem. No other signs of HGF, just overheating. You might also want to reverse-flush the cooling jacket in addition to the rad. I'm also curious about how to check for a water pump failure. Good luck

    Bulkhead-rust-what to do please?

LeadFarmer - I'm curious who you're having your galv chassis & bulkhead swap done by and if you don't mind, how much they're asking.

    Cooling Problems

Just re-checked fluid levels: oil is back up to where it should be and so is coolant. Thermostat is removed, but engine is still overheating. I'll check the workshop manual for suggestions, but this one might be a job for the garage. :(

    Cooling Problems

Also, before I started any of my faffing, I noticed some coolant on top of the engine -- near what I later learned was the thermostat housing. The thermostat housing gasket doesn't seem to be leaking, but there's another (triangular) plate that I've seen wet before -- see pic. If the...

    Cooling Problems

I didn't notice steam or other venting (and I was looking carefully) at the cap or anywhere else in the engine bay. Upon inspection, the expansion tank cap looks normal to me: rubber ring in good condition and it was securely tightened. One obvious problem: the engine oil level was a bit low...

    Cooling Problems

I removed the thermostat, re-filled the radiator with water and cranked up the engine, but it still overheats (at least while idling). Interestingly, the bottom radiator hose was noticeably warmer this time, but the engine gets just as hot (nearly in the red) just as fast (~5 min @ idle). Any...

    Cooling Problems

Had a go before work this morning... Workshop manual said to undo the rad plug to drain - looked easy. Plan was to pop the plug, drain to bucket, & remove thermostat. Except there was no plug. In that case manual says to remove lower hose. Then, instead of coolant -> bucket I get coolant ->...

OK, I'll give that a go tomorrow when the light's back. Now, where's my bucket...

    Cooling Problems

Got home from work and went back to the Landy... From a cold start, idling easily, the temp shot up (see first pic) to where it was yesterday when I was driving. Once it got hot, I stopped the engine, waited a few more minutes (to go get the camera...), and then checked both top & bottom...

    Cooling Problems

Ah, OK. I checked the top rad hose (it was warm), but not the bottom. If the bottom is cool, does that hint at a thermostat problem? Please tell me I don't have to drain all the coolant in order to replace the thermostat. (From the workshop manual diagrams it seems like that's not necessary...

    ordering parts

I've had a decent experience with lrdirect.com. I'm in the UK for now, but they advertise global shipping, so I plan to use them when I bring my Landy back to the US. Their site works fine as long as you know the part numbers you want, so look online for a parts catalogue. Otherwise it...

    Cooling Problems

Both, I think. Although I haven't sat around idling long enough for it to get quite as hot as it does when rolling along. And when moving I'm not pulling anything or put anything heavy in it or going up major hills - just gently rolling along a flat road at 45 will get it all hot and bothered...

Also, just checked that the fan is spinning with the engine running... it is.

    Cooling Problems

Howdy Gents, I think I've got a slow coolant leak (that I consider SOP) and it hasn't been a problem for the past few months since I bought my Landy. I had a long trip (~500 miles) on Saturday and the temp gauge started creeping up gradually during the trip, but nothing too worrisome. Knowing...

YATQ (Yet another tyre question): What's my sidewall height?

Thanks! That seems right since they look *really* tall

YATQ (Yet another tyre question): What's my sidewall height?

Here's a quick one. I have these tyres on my 1987 110 with standard steel wheels: Tyres Avon Rangemaster tyre size 7.50 R16 C - www.iTyre.com They're marked as 108/106N 7.5R16. So, width is 7.5 inches and inner diameter is 16 inches, but what's the sidewall height? Any idea what that...

    undersealing progress....

I've just put some tools on order (mainly an angle grinder) to make this my next project, so thanks for the pics! Is it safe to say that I should avoid the exhaust, brakes, wheels, suspension, and drive shaft? Anything else that should be off-limits for my grinder and the sealant? Anything I...

    Gearbox oil

Not sure why the uploader is resizing my image to be so small... sorry I should've checked. It's just as well though, because I highlighted the wrong gearbox & suggestions. I have the LT85 5-speed gearbox for the 1987 V8. The entries in the row of suggested oils are things like "Catrol...
