    What pinion kit?

Ok thanks. So safest is to go for STC4858 then as won't need the spacer regardless if it's there or not? Cheers

    Brake issues

Ok, so the short explanation of the issue; the brakes come on randomly while driving even when I’m not using the brakes. The pedal seems to get harder as the drive goes on too. Could there be an issue with the servo valves?

    What pinion kit?

Ok he gave me FTC5358 as it has a lip. I don’t know for sure if the flange even had a mud shield on it. Or at least it wasn’t obvious! If I replace the whole lot (the flange was scored and pitted), can I replace with any kit?

    What pinion kit?

G reg 90 with a different rear axle- it's got disc brakes. I originally thought it was off a disco, but may not be.. Local landy garage gave me a pinion seal which should 'do most landys'. It had a lip (mud shield?) but the flange compressed/mangled this so I don't think it was right. It's...

    Brake issues

Yeh, looking again, I'm quite sure it's out the diff. And a leak would make my pedal weaker, not stronger! Any thoughts on the cause / cure to the brake issue?

    Brake issues

Yeh new springs too when I rebuilt the pedal box. I'm worried that if I need to adjust again, I won't have any more thread to play with! Seems strange that at this position, initially the pedal was hitting the floor (while braking effectively). But now I have a rock hard pedal! Only 'unknown'...

    Brake issues

new servo and master cylinder. Pads and discs haven't been touched, but the pipes were replaced at the front only. Initially the pedal had way too much travel and bottomed out on the floor, so I adjusted the push rod in the servo as the nut was hard up against the bulb on the end. Once done...

    brake servo push rod issues

300tdi in a G reg defender. New brake servo and master cylinder. Brake pedal had a lot of travel, so I adjusted the nut on the push rod which solved the issue. After a couple test drives, I found the brakes sticking on and the pedal had firmed up a bit too much! I backed off the nut a little and...

    Hot 300tdi

Haha, same, or faulty.... I remembered I had a spare used one. Temp is now showing less than 1/3 the way up the white. With the thermometer test and the new fan all aligning, I think I can trust this one! Thanks for all the help!!

    Hot 300tdi

So, fan wouldn’t come on at all. Bypassed the relay for it and it does work. Took bleed screw off thermostat housing and stuck a digital thermometer in- 65 degrees. So this explains why the fan isn’t coming on. Top hose is hot, so does this mean the thermostat (original in line one) is...

    Hot 300tdi

Yeh opened the rad top plug and it overflowed. Same with thermostat plug. Top hose is also hot. Thermostat housing is too hot to hold on to... Also stuck my finger in the header tank water, it’s not hot, it’s warm. I was testing the engine without my fan as I never thought it would need the...

    Hot 300tdi

So what’s the best way to get air out? I haven’t moved the car for that very fear!
  13. R

    Hot 300tdi

I assumed when she was sitting at idle, the fan shouldn’t really have a need to go on? Should it really get that hot just sitting there? Keep checking and squeezing pipes, but can’t seem to get any air out.

    Hot 300tdi

my 300tdi got cooked. I placed the cause down to a leak in the coolant and blown head gasket along with breaks being locked on. Just put a 300tdi in from a disco. No known issues... Along with new radiator, thermostat, coolant hoses and water pump. Ran the engine for the first time and within...

    priming 300tdi

pipes from the fuel pump to the injectors have been off. Engine has also been drained down. I saw a video that suggested breaking the nut at the injector, turning the engine over until diesel starts to spirt out at the top of the injector, then tighten the nut. This, along with pre-filling...

    300tdi wiring

Ok, so the holes in the casing that I thought were the screw holes... are not screws! Some kind of rivet! Is this the right box to take off, should I just break it off? Or drill out the rivers?

    300tdi wiring

Perfect! Thank you very much! And evening of frustration and head scratching solved again!

    300tdi wiring

Great thanks. Will it be obvious when I take the cover off? I assume the cables here are not required for my engine? I also have a second set of 3 wires at the front of the pump arrangement. It also comes off a plastic cover. Will these also be redundant? What were/are they for? You can see the...

    300tdi wiring

swapping over my early 300tdi for one out an R reg disco. There was a white wire (very thin) plugged into the connector shown in red. On the new engine there is a different arrangement with a multi plug. What do I do here? Where do I connect the white cable? I also have a thin white cable...

    Clutch staple

assembling my new clutch arm and bearing. The kit came with a plastic (really crappy) 'staple'. The plastic clip that connects the beating to the clutch fork. Well, the bearing moves freely, but the staple just pops out as it's so flimsy. So do I need it? LTR on YouTube notes it's to hold them...
