    Disco 2 MOT aftermath :-(((((((((

There is a replacement rear chassis available via Britpart I think. They aren't always the easiest to fit though try this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DISCOVERY-2-REAR-CHASSIS-SECTION-LONGER-EXTENSIONS-CROSS-MEMBER-/291466512382?fits=Model%3ADiscovery%7CPlat_Gen%3AMK+II&hash=item43dcc207fe

    advice on cylinder head skim

It will almost certainly be the head gasket and it needs to be checked for flatness, they can only take a bit off with skimming but at least needs checking. Valves need to come out and may as well get it pressure checked while you're on. Do it once, do it right is my motto. Also worth checking...

Disco 1 what are the signs of swivel bearing failure

Take off the rear prop, lock the centre diff and try it in front wheel drive. If the judder is gone then the rear prop is your problem.

    2.5 NA conversion???

No, no, no & no again. Have you ever been in a tdi with the intercooler pipe off? It's more gutless than a gutless thing. It would be doable but I cannot think of reason why??

Disco 2 V8 auto box oil cooler pipes

You will often find that your local tractor/agricultural dealer/workshop can make them up too, anything like my local guys and they quite enjoy doing something a bit different;)

Disco 1 Is my Disco dead?

^^^^^^^ Like wot he said, it's really hard to keep an old Disco on the road without either a WELDER or a shed load of cash to pay a WELDER or a good mate with WELDER ;) It's fairly easy to learn using a MIG but practice and patience. BTW hope you get someone to help get it tested, I'm up in...

Disco 1 holes in chassis question

I think you nailed it with your last comment about drinking too much:D Interesting question though, the problem I could see would be how do you make the hole look old once you have drilled it??
  9. P

    is this bad?

I thought it looked rather solid for an old Disco 1, nowt on there that can't be fixed. Just takes a bit of time and thought and a lot welding gas;)

    Disco 3/4 Any probs?

Good ones are great, the rest are not exactly problem free:D

    V8 disco 1. 1997

My understanding is it doesn't need to have a cat fitted, you just needs to get the emissions right?? First off when was it serviced last what's the air filter/plugs/HT leads etc like? A good service and check up should help identify why the emissions are high

    Crazy problem. Don't understand.

Weird electrical issues are most commonly due to poor earthing points, it would be worthwhile to check these out

    Winch security

Oops, wrong picture but you can get them in the right size. I'm sure there is someone who does them a bit like steering lock bolts so you tighten them and then the bolt head shears off

    V8 auto to 300tdi conversion??

That's what I needed to hear, 17-20 mpg on petrol, I can live with that & a squirt of LPG definitely makes it affordable.

    reciver hitch

You can make pretty much anything fit pretty much anything else with a bit of thought and ingenuity/engineering but I agree re guardian tank guard or try here: RSB Discovery Tank Guard With Removable Tow Hitch Have seen some of their stuff and it looks well made to me
