Series 3 full resto thread from the beginning

Made a start at the strip down. Little bit at a time :). Wasps bink was free.:) First sign of weldable rust on the chassis. Not too bad.

Cracked off. Maybe build a weld and recut, but cast is tricky to weld. No one any idea ?

Series 3 Picked up the series 3. Just need to get started now.

Have had that done before with some success. Getting someone to weld cast alloy is never cheap though as it`s a mare to do.

Starting a fresh post as traffic seems slow on this site and I can`t post in wanted yet. 5 bearing metric petrol unit. Timing chain cover has a broken thread housing so I need to replace it. Is it the same as a 3 bearing one, ? Anyone have one, or know of a supplier ? Brads

Oh well, here it begins. Removed the water pump and some fanny had "glued" a stud back in because the had cracked of the thread housing from the case. So, I need a timing chain case for a petrol 2.25. Any ideas ?

Hoovered it out today to get a better view of the corrosion issues. There are plenty ! lol. Couldn`t turn it over with the cranking handle either so was panicking. Removed the fan belt, sprayed ultra crack /WD40 mix down the bores and hey presto, seized water pump ! phew !. Might be able to...

Ripped out the door cards today, and the loft insulation behind them ! ffs. Doors are rotten, driver side unsavable, passenger side maybe save the lower. Tailgate savable. More holes drilled in the bloody thing than anything. Everything fitted using woodscrews ! including the roof mounted...

    First Tools

Halfords pro. Lifetime warranty and great quality. They used to be made by Facom, might still be in fact. If they had Facom on them they would be 5 x the price. Oh, and get a Trade card, just make up a company name .

Thanks It`s not a County, just had flashes fitted (90) The roof has safari rooflights fitted along with a sunroof, so it has to go. The rear has had seating but the entire interior is to be redone. Not 100% what direction I`ll go. My last one was MOD green with bench seats, windows and a solid...

    Whats the obsession with galvanising?

Whats the story with painting over galv ? I`m starting a Series 3 soon, chassis is actually fine, but whatever I can get Galvanised, I will. It`s pretty cheap to get done. Special primers then normal paint ?

    Back after a wee while

Did some googling. The very last of the series 3`s used defender cappings on the rear tub. Makes mine a bit of an oddity, which is nice.

Another question. Why the different rear light configuration.? Not seen a S3 with this set up before. Only appears to have been on 1984 models, so maybe a runout version ?

Will do. First story will likely be about how the hell I`m getting it out.! It`s at the end of a very tight lane so a trailer might be out for the first part of it`s journey.

    Back after a wee while

And so it begins. Managed to find a standard steering wheel for a tenner. Couple of tiny cracks but once filled and painted it should be perfect. Anyone any recommendations for types of paint to use ?
