    Clutch hydraulics - wtf?!?!

Clutch biting point has always been basically "in the carpet" since I bought the Hipp-o-crap. Clutch release arm is nice and free Tried bleeding the clutch - and whilst the fluid was a bit manky, it didn't appear to have air in. Slapped on the hydraulics from my Rover 45 (after swapping the...

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

Had a rare moment, of a spare couple of minutes tonight - so thought I'd throw together the twin turbo parts on the freelander manifold. Top is the more common L series manifold, bottom is the hippo version. Far from ideal for efficient power. My last mk3 hybrid, with my drain adaptor, and...

you've just given me an *amazing* idea, involving potentially two of these beasts: RUSSIAN ARMY CCCP GAS MASK WITH HOSE AND FILTER | eBay

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

can't beat a bit of clag ;) Should be grabbing some pipe from work to make the bonnet exit exhausts - both will potentially have exhaust flappers on too, just for the inevitable rain  The "primary" exhaust will only be a bonnet exit for a day or two, for ****s and giggles, and for the...

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

Dieselpowered is a close friend of mine. The turbo (which is held fairly secret, just to annoy certain people) was sat on my bench for a while ;) The top one, besides turbo and mapping - is totally stock. The fella driving the bottom one has even said, if it was a rolling start, he'd have been...

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

Naah, this thing is purely a mile muncher - did my first decent amount of mileage this weeked (Sheffield to Norfolk) and it returned around 40mpg, the new radiator didn't spill a drop, and one of the comfiest cars I've owned :D Ordering new clutch hydraulics on Friday, and hopefully fitting...

    Fuel consumption Poll

Did a nice long drive this weekend to the parents (approx 150 miles each way) and it appears to have averaged around 40mpg+ Which was nice

    immobiliser self-arm timing

Right, had the hippo for coming up to 2 weeks now, and one thing has become rather clear... Whoever calibrated the time delay for the immobiliser, clearly was an impatient git. I can disable it from the passenger side - and by the time I'm in the drivers seat, the little red light's started...

    Opinions please.

and here's me with my £600 hippo... most expensive car I've bought in about 10 years

What have you done to your Freelander today

The early SD, the mid-age SDi (same as ours) and the late VP30 equipped cars, are all slightly different turbos ;) They're all GT1549, with the exact same turbine housing, it's the compressor that differs. SD and SDi have the same compressor wheel, but different AR compressor housings (very...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Whip off that naff turbo, and grab a turbo from a late-spec Rover (25/45/MGZR/MGZS) Swap the turbine housings, and gain a nice little boost in peak power (dyno recorded 10-15Bhp on Rover SDis, which have a smaller fuel pump compared to our hippos) Something I'll be doing over the next few...

Anyone bought a Britpart rear silencer?

mine's just going to be replaced with a piece of pipe

    Ird???

Have a peek at the engine mounts and steadies - one (or more!) may be goosed, causing the whole engine to move around like mad. Potentially quite a cheap repair :) Would explain the CV - as it means it would've just been pulled apart, rather than destroyed

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

Lol, just quickly worked it out.... my gearing change, will be akin to changing from the current 25" diameter tyres, to a whopping 32" diameter  will they fit with some 5mm spacers? :p

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

Ratios did indeed change on the later models, but only by a smidge - this is going to be a monster of a change  TD4 engines use a vnt turbo - completely different kettle of fish compared to the wastegated turbo fitted to the L series (which is most efficient at 19psi - no idea about the...

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

Also, just throwing in the FWD gearbox with massively different ratio, gives me two things: 1) an idea what effective ratio I'd find most suitable 2) an IRD to measure up, to build my stronger RWD PG1, from the freelander PG1 case :)

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

Getting very tempted to break my old Rover 45 - as I've already had to rob the clutch hydraulics from it for this lemon. FWD PG1 gearbox (need to check driveshaft lengths) late spec L series From this, instead of 70mph@3000rpm, I'll end up with an effective 90mph@3000rpm  And the...
