First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

a reminder of my fave previous car, and the general style direction ;)

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

Possibly a mashup between these two concepts:

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

pfft, shove it on a roof rack  The wife loves the idea of putting a pirate flag on this car - it made spotting a previous car a doddle in a carpark. At the same time, might as well lob on a light bar. Would love to use two teardrop-shaped motorbike lamps for said light bar, but they tend...

oh, it's certainly been fired - rifling marks in the copper ring, and a MASSIVE dent in the base... somehow?? Also, these turned up today - to fix the central locking :) £15 for all 4, vs £80+ per corner. No contest.

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

when I was pulled over in one of the previous cars - they tried to pull me up on it... at which point I just started slapping the "pointy" bit with my hand, as it's about 10mm wide, and flat

    Help (Again) Clutch bite point

yups, some clever arse in Rover, decided that they'd make the clutch system "Sealed for life, but still needs to be bled, so go **** yourself" Had the mispleasure of attempting to bleed mine today.....
  7. DastardlyDan

What have you done to your Freelander today

nearly set the bloody thing on fire, trying to bleed the unbleedable clutch hydraulics.... Ended up making the hydraulics from my Rover 45 that I'm trying to sell, fit - kinda immobilising the poor Rover :(

no idea tbh - it kinda "turned up" in a drawer in my desk when I was about 13... nobody knows how it got there. Drilled+tapped a hole in the bottom of it about 7 years ago, fitted it to about 4 cars now :)

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

well it was held in with about 3 extra cable ties for some unknown reason... these weren't put back in, as they were totally unnecessary. And the hydraulic joints were held together with split pins. Someone's been playing it seems.....

First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

Threw myself under the Hippo, with the intention of swapping the gearchange setup to get rid of the sloppyness: (photobucket vid - click to watch) But it turns out the whole rod setup is actually fine, and it's where the rollpin fits into the gearbox itself. The pin is solid in the rod, but...

What've you done to your insides?

Only interior mod to date... but it's only been a week :p And yes, it's a real shell

It was indeed the rear wipers - shortly after I wrote that I learnt of the CCU, and how to recalibrate the rear window. Not even owned it a week and I've learnt about a lot of the common failures... as mine has them  Best way to learn IMO :)
  13. DastardlyDan

someone's driven into tailgate so now what?

New door - I swapped mine over in the space of about an hour :)

    Central Locking REPAIR, not replacement

only one that works on mine, is the boot! Hoping to mount the generic solenoids to the locks themselves, remove the deadlock mechanism, along with the wiring to both standard motors, and make it as simple as possible to replicate

    Central Locking REPAIR, not replacement

yeah, same units apparently - with a deadlock motor too! I'll be removing that part of mine for safe measure

    Rear window packed in..

I pulled off the trim from the driver side of the boot, and unplugged the brown plug, with 6 large contacts. The two blue wires feed the regulator motor. I simply shoved 12v down these to raise/lower the window. Might help you get it to the right position :)

Big chunky tyres on my Freelander1

I may put a big Jeep badge on my hippo, to annoy people, as it's clearly a sore point As long as all 4 wheels have the same size tyres, VCU and IRD can be left out of the equation - but by all means, check the VCU, to ensure it's not starting to go "stiff" whilst you're raising the bum off the...

    Central Locking REPAIR, not replacement

After a bit of forum hunting and googling, it seems the issue with my naff central locking, is most likely due to worn out/tired motors. All post seem to be filled with people content with spending £65+VAT on each unit, and just swapping them out - with only a single brief mention of...

no idea what it's originally off tbh - massive old beast I bought off my Tutor, which will be used for starting the jet engine.... one day
