    GKN prop bearing

Yes. Going straight back - I’ve fitted four or five various aftermarket versions over the years and they’ve all failed within a year. You can see why - the cocked bearing will be put under undue pressure, and the seal is poorly fitted, already leaking some grease. Grease out = water and salt...

    GKN prop bearing

The bearing is unbranded (should be FAG), and is mounted eccentrically in the rubber. The rubber itself is not centred in the metal surround. The bearing’s axis is tilted from the surround’s axis. The box was marked TOQ000040G, apparently Britpart’s better range. G should stand for genuine, not...

    GKN prop bearing

Has anyone ordered one of these recently? I ordered one from Island 4x4, specifically GKN (TOQ000040GKN) and it’s arrived in a Britpart box with no GKN branding. Should I expect a GKN on the box and stamped somewhere on the bearing? Any other clues? Usually a decent manufacturer puts their...

    FL1 FBH?

If you have a PTC, a) you won’t find a FBH and b) you should be able to tell if it’s there: Start a cold engine and put the blower on 1. As you move the temp control either side of 12 o’clock you should hear it click in and out, and the engine note change as it gets loaded and unloaded.

Not sure, but AT might be the TCM. I can’t connect (link error) as mine is a manual.

    Yes, it’s the LR V2.0 Firmware V01.15 Software V01.30

How did you do the update? I can’t seem to find the manual.

    04 Td4 lumpy idle

Wow, then mine really is rough - say one cyl was 744, then I have a range of about 735-751. Mine was nowhere near that. It does have the EGR, but the injectors I took out looked reasonably clean.

    04 Td4 lumpy idle

Bought mine a few months ago. Readings of zero either mean your engine is running perfectly (yay!) or that the scanner isn’t communicating, I would suggest. As I say, my version gives roughness readings from 750-800 ish, so I guess this is rpm, so shouldn’t be zero anyway. Roughness (rpm per...

    04 Td4 lumpy idle

All zero on compensation or roughness? My scanner gives roughness readings around 750-800 which I assume is rpm per stroke. It would be nice to have reference ranges for what’s acceptable.

    04 Td4 lumpy idle

It’s in diagnostics, smart scan. Now it’s running OK the compensation readings are still away from 0, but they stay reasonably constant. There must be a general guide to scantool common rail diagnostics somewhere, but I can’t find a decent one. The car was filled with petrol and run till it...

    04 Td4 lumpy idle

....and occasional hard starting. 156k miles. I did a simple unplug test, which wasn’t conclusive but seemed to indicate injector 3. I swapped that for a scrap injector (I know...) but no real improvement. Plugged in the iCarsoft i930 and looked into the cylinder roughness data. Various...

    Help!

A worn clutch plate wouldn’t overextend the slave - the opposite, in fact. Worn clutch fingers possibly, but unlikely unless VERY heavily used. Incompatible clutch unlikely (cheap, crap one possible) because when you buy a Td4 clutch, you buy a Td4 clutch. There aren’t variants. I bet they...

Freelander 1 All Makes LP Pump Fails 5k miles

If it’s out of warranty you’re in the complex realm of ‘fit for purpose’ and suchlike. Then they can come back with ‘was it fitted by a qualified mechanical engineer?’ and other weaselling. If you’re not planning on that route, get a pipe cutter/hacksaw and open it up. Piccies would be nice!

Thanks Broke, but I’ve found one now. Forgot to update thread title. Good luck with the sale.

    Freelander V6 VCU&ENGINE

Specific cylinder misfire? I’d have a go at swapping HT leads, then injectors to see which one the misfire follows. Did the mechanic watch fuel pressures, sensor values, etc?

    Freelander V6 VCU&ENGINE

So you have a lean command to counter a rich condition. I found this online for causes: A dirty mass air flow sensor overstating the amount of air entering the engine which may cause excessive fuel delivery A bad oxygen sensor A leaking fuel injector allowing too much fuel to enter the...

    Freelander V6 VCU&ENGINE

Not that I know of. Doubtful it’ll fail quicker than running it with a stiff VCU. Have a look at this: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/tests-new-freelander-1-owners-should-do-on-their-car.312863/ Too many Freelanders are run with different makes of tyres, and uneven pressures.
