Tempted to but this Disco-Please Advise

Can only speak from my limited experience of buying a similar vehicle: - yes the clutch is heavy and hard to push right down if you are short. I actually built the pedal up by 1/2" or so to help, its the way the car is! - Mine had 144000 miles and after purchase needed £1600 for...

    disconnecting the battery....

If I disconnect the battery on my Disco 2 will it screw up the alarm/immobilisor and will it need to be reset? If this is the case will I be better keeping a 12v supply on at all times to avoid any issues?

    Rear screen washer not working....

Have checked the fuse, and also the switch. Pressing the button activates the wiper as it should, but there is no sound from the pump. Is the rear wash an MOT requirement? and how do I get to the pump, Haynes book of lies says remove the bumper, is there not an easier way???? I also have the...

    viscous fan

Just replaced mine, as the original had some play in it. Taking it off should in theory free up a bit more power and fuel economy, but it's not that simple. The fan may well add power/economy at low speeds and higher revs (when towing) as it pulls cold air through the radiator and more...

    Side step repair....

I noticed "some corrosion" on both the side steps fitted to our Disco 2, so today set about repairing the drivers side one. As ever "the battle of the bolts" ensued, even after a good soaking in penetrating oil, and the 4 bolts holding the step on took quite a while to get out. Once the step...

Selling my disco for a fourtrak

I looked at them as a tow car before I bought the Disco. They have a good reputation but are normally 2wd for road use, engaging 4wd has no centre diff so you cant run it on the road. I figured this could be a pain on our snowy roads where main roads are often clear and side road are snow bound...

    Judder at 50mph?

Actually could even be the engine fan - my specialist removed this to eliminate it when tracing the problem with mine!!!!

    Judder at 50mph?

Mine had this at approaching 60 and I was told wheel balance. In the end it was front propshaft UJ s and also the swivel bearings. I spent £3000 for mine and have spent a further £1800 getting it right......but at least I know now what has been done and it shouldnt be too bad from here on in...

    play in viscous fan assembly

Well that was easy for a change!!! New fan arrived, open bonnet cover removed, whack spanner with hammer to free then swap fans. 15 minutes max. There was a fair bit of play on the old one which wont have helped the engine smoothness, so almost certainly worth doing. Anyone who needs a...

Rustproofing - paint chassis or waxoil?

Per title really. Disco 2 is now running well after a pretty big spend so no its onto maintaining its condition (if it ever stops raining) Plan A was to paint the chassis with zinc primer followed by a coat of hammerite smooth This will be fairly laborious and far from cheap so I am...

    How fast is you Landy?

I'm new to Landy's but I am not happy taking our Disco 2 much over 60, in fact 50 - 55 seems a sensible general speed on an open road. Really not sure why anyone wants to go quick in a Landy, or indeed would buy one for the school run, or motorway use, totally pointless and there are far...

running costs of a f reg defender 300tdi

All true. I have rebuilt (like from scratch, welding, engine gearbox rebuild etc) a classic Mini and built 2 kit cars. I'm getting on a bit so avoid the heavier jobs but its worth making the point that a lot of money can still be saved doing the simpler jobs - couple of examples: Oil and...

Begining to enjoy this thing now!!!! Oil change today, (first car I've had that didnt need jacking up so you can get underneath it!) and the TD5 is running really sweetly, the big surge of torque from 1800 - 3000 is fun!!!! Amazingly the cruise control works as well!!!!! Am finding the...

    play in viscous fan assembly

OK will order one up, thanks. I am a bit confused with all the left hand/right hand thread stuff...........Haynes confirms normal right hand, sure the garage said otherwise!!!!

    play in viscous fan assembly

The garage advised that there is some play in the viscous fan on our TD5. Having just spent a tidy sum on other bits I would rather not pay out more at the moment, is this unit likely to fail and do damage or can it be safely ignored until it gets worse? It spins freely when stationary so...

    EGR blank/removal

just checked mine that I removed yesterday, actually seems jammed shut! Your explanation fits very well with the engine becoming smoother at part throttle, my engine used to "hunt" slightly, it's now pretty smooth.....much better
