I have returned, good song came on so I did the journey with no stops except at kfc round the corner from the house, glad to get my real bed back. Had a really good weekend, hope to do it again some time.

It's about £20 and seems to be a motorbike thing but it's 12v and maybe worth it as it has a lot less to go wrong.

I think the lesson there is if (like me) you don't know that much about what you're getting into with an older motor is to consider taking your new vehicle for an MOT after you buy it for the sake of £40 or whatever it could save you a lot of heartache.

I hope he's taking it back for a refund.

Oh this is a bit more expensive but would be less hassle, didn't know they made them like this

If you want less hassle to remove it later buy a usb plug in thing and a lighter socket too for a couple of quid then you can wire in the socket and hide it behind somewhere with the plug in, safest, easiest way in my opinion.

Packed it full of stuff in preparation for driving down to Bristol tomorrow and found the thing that holds the bottle jack in pace in the engine bay, not very exciting but I always wondered how it was supposed to sit in there without causing damage.
