Could this be the EGR, not the MAF? That is - the EGR not cutting in due to MAF sensor not 'telling it' to? There have been quite a few posts on here about EGRs and whether they are any use. I have disconnected and blanked off the wee vacuum pipe to stop dirtying up the air intake, and many...

With the front hub there is a need to properly align it (I think thats what the tool is for). Have a search for threads about balljoint replacement, there's info there...

Just noticed your comment about the LR tool - so guess this may be the front one you're talking about. I think the same may apply - check the bearing

Is this is the rear axle? I had what I thought was a leaking oil seal, replaced it and it continued to leak. Turned out to be the hub bearing was away - causing movement that was too much for the oil seal. You should be able to feel any wear in the hub bearing. Good luck

Thanks Grrrrrr, but I think his is a 4.0 HSE But I'm looking into it. Rumour is there's someone in Jedburgh with one for a 2.5 DT, don't think he's on here or a pal has a snap-on diag - I'll see if that's any use

My 2.5DT starts easily, hot or cold. It goes well and acceleration is fine.:)(smug bastard) Tho' I suspect that it is not quite as good as it could be... Where I regularly start up there is a sooty patch on the drive. More noticeably smoky if I start it quite soon after turning it off. Also wee...
