turn up the boost to cure black smoke?

I'm sure you're right... It's got a new air cleaner, fuel filter etc. I've been told worn injectors might make it smoke. We're a bit short of expertise here on adjusting pumps. New ones are expensive plus 100% duty, and if a vehicle runs no one worries about the smoke - part of the problem...

turn up the boost to cure black smoke?

Hi My Defender 200tdi chucks out buckets of thick black smoke under acceleration or full load. Back off and it stops. I've fiddled with the fuel screw on the pump before and have ended up with no power, or misfiring, or white smoke... I'm a bit loath to touch the pump again! Especially as...

    110 rear seat belts

I've just made up a mounting bar and brackets for rear seatbelts for my 110, which has four doors and originally 8 seats, and then took the plastic moulding off the C pillar... and there's no bracket to mount the reel on! Dooh... Anyone know what the bracket even fixes to as there doesn't...

90 rear drum brakes jamming - Please help with ideas

I had one new, faulty master cylinder that didn't solve the problem; the second one did... and I bet master cylinders here come from the same place they do in Uganda. I also changed all the flexi hoses (they can collapse internally) and rebuilt the front calipers - but it was the master...

200 Tdi air filter, snorkle etc

Storm 99; with respect, I feel you are wrong. Ambient air temperature is max 52 degrees C Coolant temperature is circa 90 degrees C in the same circumstances. So there has to be an advantage in minimising intake temperatures, and therefore exhaust gas temperature. In fact, I'd...

200 Tdi air filter, snorkle etc

Mines a left hand drive - so the heater comes in through the right hand wing (from the drivers seat). I could just wind the boost up, but boost equals heat, and that I don't need. I'm running a smaller turbo than standard, and I spend a lot of time pulling up steep inclines - as fast as is...

90 rear drum brakes jamming - Please help with ideas

I had something very similar here in Morocco - where my 110 is a similar 'bitsa' and where we also have to make do with local, reconstituted parts etc. I'd check your master cylinder first. I had the same thing - brakes were fine at the garage, drive a few kilometres and they locked on. I had...

200 Tdi air filter, snorkle etc

Hi I have a locally made (ie not very good) snorkle on my 200 tdi Defender. It uses the hole in the wing top, rather than the side, and a long section of hose. I was thinking of connecting it back up, which got me onto looking at the whole air intake system, and how ruddy awful it is. As...

    Heater controls

Thanks, I'll try that. Pushing the flaps open sounds more my style!

    Heater controls

Thanks Buster. I get it now. Looks like the two footwell outlets have flaps that just close them off. I'll try and free the cable off, but imagine I'll have to try and move them by hand - or screwdriver!

    Heater controls

Aha. Mines a left hand drive. I have a lever to the right of the speedo that does the fan and something else presumably, as it's ruddy stiff. There are two levers on the left that are presumably connected to the cables on the box, but the decals are long since gone so i can only guess at their...

Thanks.... Any chance you could give me a clue as to where?

    Heater controls

I've finally got the heater working. The control cables were seized, so I've just cut them off. On the heater box there's a thing on low down on the side that opens and closes a door from the heater to the duct - all air on and off. On the top there's another 'thing' that moves a flap inside...

brake pedal hard, brakes binding but not stopping - help!

I thought I'd let you know that the new master cylinder turned out to be faulty; another one cured the problem. The 'adjustment' was a nut on the end of the rod that goes into the servo - I'm not sure that it's supposed to be anything but tight.

brake pedal hard, brakes binding but not stopping - help!

Think we've sorted it. Pedal is now normal and it will lock all four wheels. The test is whether they will bind... There is (apparently) an adjustment on the amount of 'throw' on the master cylinder... Time for a test run

brake pedal hard, brakes binding but not stopping - help!

Hi My '92 110 had a problem with a spongy pedal and binding brakes. I changed the master cylinder and swapped axles for the disc brakes on my old Disco 300Tdi. Now I have a solid pedal, almost no stopping power, and all 4 brakes are smoking hot after 20 miles. The front discs are...

Wow! That's wonderful. I think the whole linkage on the side is missing - possibly lying in the road somewhere...!

tried to select low range, now it wont move...

Ok - when I was underneath it in the freezing puddle, I couldn't see or feel any sort of linkage at all. I was expecting one - last time I looked closely at the transfer box was under an 84 Range Rover - which is another LT77, but... I pulled the gear lever boot up and the transfer stick goes...

tried to select low range, now it wont move...

Hi Thanks for all the responses, but wrong end of stick - maybe literally! This isn't a sticky or difficult change. This is my eight LR and I know the change can be awkward. This does NOTHING. There's no resistance, no feel. Something has broken or fallen off, and as there doesn't seem to...

tried to select low range, now it wont move...

I have a '92 Defender 200tdi. I stopped in the middle of no where on a freezing, foogy night at 1am and 6,000 feet up to negotiate a tricky slope. Slipped it into low (the change has always been the smoothest of any LR I've driven) and... Nothing. Pulled it back for High - level feels...
