    90 TD5 Drivetrain Niggles

Errm, have I led a sheltered life?? I say, is it the noise the butler makes on the dinner gong?? I vaguely remember what a bonk is. Does that help?? I've been trying for the last hour to find a photo of a Landy propshaft. Impossible.. Quicker to go the 32 miles to look under one in a showroom..

    90 TD5 Drivetrain Niggles

Maybe found the cause. Someone on the LRO forum suggested the UJ yokes may be misaligned and that a TD5 is different to previous models. Had a look and they seem not to be aligned conventionally. However, I can't find any info as to how they should be aligned on a TD5... Can anyone help...

    90 TD5 Drivetrain Niggles

Just back from a spin without the front propshaft. A dream, all vibes and noises have gone. Shall I drive around like this for ever...? Hmmm, I suppose not. As the front propshaft is almost new, but not a LR part, it hardly seems replacing it, unless it's unbelievably out of balance. Like I can...

    90 TD5 Drivetrain Niggles

I recently bought another 90 TD5 (sigh...) which apart from an annoying vibration, I'm very happy with. It's got a low mileage but was used by the previous owner for some offroading, accessing hilly land. It came with very big MT's and now I've changed them to AT's I've realised the MT's were...

    Advice on 90s

I can see you've had many sensible, helpful replies.....!! Worth it trying to figure out what the hell that woman is doing, though.. The 200 and 300TDi's are basically the same engine and power output is the same (111bhp). Apart from the engine, nothing will have changed from your last 90, so...

    90 Suspension - a bit too 'ard.

I fitted the RR springs (Paddocks, £9 each, green colour code) and have to say they are an improvement. The 90 doesn't jump in the air or sideways if I hit a good bump, the wheel is now more inclined to ride over it, as I believe the suspension is supposed to allow it to do, not be so rigid that...

    90 Suspension - a bit too 'ard.

Doh, why is dat girl trying to get an axle stand under dat motor...?? Oh, and thanks for the info, a full set of RR springs are going on - and gas front shocks. Springs dirt cheap from Paddocks, £9 each! Comfy tidings to be related later.. I hope..

    90 Suspension - a bit too 'ard.

Thanks, Gareth, you're a pal... Just what I need.. Another for the wife, please, paisley pattern would do nicely.. I'll check them out Jonathon, thanks.. Does anyone know the web address for a chart of LR spring rates, I used to have it but it disappeared during a PC meltdown. Ta..

    Making a 1988 Defender 90 More Homely

And back to the real world...! Nationwide trim do re-trims in leather, their ad is top right on page 197 of the current LRO, or 01527 518851. At the moment there's a black leather front centre seat on EBay, seller says it's out of a 2001 110 special edition, so they are available from time to...

    90 Suspension - a bit too 'ard.

Does anyone have advice on how to soften up the suspension of my standard 90 TD5? It's bone-jarringly hard at present. I tried Koni adjustables (on softest setting) on my last identical motor and they made no difference. All after-market options seem to offer 'heavy duty' or 'stiffer for fast...

    Need a Few Ideas Please

Hi, A couple of companies now do an extended lead for the ECU and there's been articles in the Land Rover press about them, they cost £250, which seems a bit steep. As for trips, take a look at http://www.swedenoffroad.com, an annual tour of offroad sites the length of Sweden. It's from...

    Making a 1988 Defender 90 More Homely

Ah, I thought by 'more homely' you meant some nice lace curtains, a fireplace and three ducks across the windscreen. Thinking about it, a fireplace wouldn't be such a bad idea considering how good the heaters are! Yes, I saw 90/110 leather seats advertised on EBay recently, I think they were...

    Winter tyres

I recently bought a 90 with 285/75 BFG Mud Terrains (which are for sale). The last owner told me he had to adjust the limit stops on the steering, but they don't look over big on the motor. In answer to your question, I suspect BFG AT's may be better as I personally favour them, but just going...

    Land Rover TD5 Power upgrade??

It simply depends on how much power you want and where you live. I have a 90 TD5 with a 'power module' which is simple to fit, goes under the seat and needs a power and an earth connection and then you connect up to the wires to the injectors. It's an easy DIY job but installers (in my...

    Gearbox

Try Ashcrofts, who probably have the best reputation and overall knowledge, should find everything you need to know here:- http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/ and no need to leave home, they will send a courier for your old unit and deliver the new, if you're into DIY, or fit it for you.

KAM 2.83 diffs - anyone any knowledge? Also big MT's FS

Tired of pulling away in 2nd and looking for a non-existant 6th gear at 50 - 60 mph I want to change the final drive of my 90 TD5 (which is 'chipped'). It did look like a spud at one time, so much earth around it.. I've tried the Ashcrofts ratio change before (15% ratio change) on another...

Alarm and full width mat supplier?

I'm hoping to buy another used 90 TD5 shortly :D . My last one had a simple intruder alarm with a secret switch and two sensors either side of the windscreen. As it was already fitted when I bought the 90, does anyone know where I can buy one for my new motor? I'd also like one of those thick...

    TD5 noise

Hi Steve, just to clarify a little more, the TD5 engine has two oil filters, a conventional one and a centrifugal one, which the last guy was referring to. If you look under the bonnet, it's on the right side of the engine, a few inches below the top and in the middle, roughly, and a little...
