Wanted! My old 101 bumper! Bristol Area!

Ah, the air system... Well, there is a Cummins 6Bt and 5 speed out of a Daf 45 somewhere on the high seas about 10 days out of Adelaide which is destined for the 101.... The engine has a decent compressor on it, and I believe the gearbox to have an air assisted clutch slave cylinder so that'd be...

Wanted! My old 101 bumper! Bristol Area!

Well, the 130 went, and I now have another 101! Wheels have been shot blasted, primed, painted and fitted with Michelins, the knackered V8 has come out and a loan 3.9 has been fitted, the swivel seals have been replaced, brakes all checked, shockers removed, bushes replaced and refitted...

    Waste of a good vehicle.

Where did it say it was stolen? I understood it it had been imported illegally and had a few mods to get it around the tight import laws in the US.... Even if it is stolen, the very fact that it has been impounded and not made it to its original destination will serve as enough of an...

    101's and Forward control variations.

How's about a section for Land Rover 101's and all other Forward Controls... There's quite a few about....;)

    Waste of a good vehicle.

Just another example of how stupid and narrow minded the American culture is. They cruse around in gas guzzling monsters that would obliterate anything they hit, yet they'll crush a vehicle that is quite obviously not old, but could easily be upgraded and resold to make them the $100000 they...

SWIMBO's Ser 2 Tdi... The Beginning!

This has now lead me to think about running two 'original' style levers for hi/lo (red), and CDL (yellow). The diff lock lever assy unbolts and allows the original seat box to sit as it should.... Should confuse a few when they open the door!!

So, with the steering done its onto the handbrake. I am using the original Series lever on its original chassis mount but with a newly made pivot assy bolted to the transfer case which hooks onto the LT230's drum brake! 'A' goes to the handbrake drum and 'B' goes to the original handbrake lever...

SWIMBO's Ser 2 Tdi... The Beginning!

Steering box fitted and most of the surrounding metalwork done! Heavy weight angle now surrounds it and a piece of thick wall RHS runs from under the RH chassis rail to the replaced front xmember that came out of the donor vehicle.

SWIMBO's Ser 2 Tdi... The Beginning!

Once happy with the position, holes are drilled, and I've inserted tubes and welded them in place so the bolts can't crush the chassis. Steering and brakes have to be right! I've found a guy over who's started making a front disk brake kit for the Series vehicles... He'll supply a bolt on kit...

Yeah, it's an original chassis... As said, no salt! It does help being able to undo stuff! After tacking a support in, the front cross member has been removed, and the PAS box tried in place. I managed to find a straight arm at the local LR Garage, with taper hole to accept the ball joint from...

SWIMBO's Ser 2 Tdi... The Beginning!

It all gets a bit close to the chassis and box but there is 15mm clearance at the closest point. I have managed to use all the original mounting points and remake the rubber hangers using some ex mine conveyor belt! Also have the outlet running out to the RHS as it would have done. Just a little...

Next to come is the exhaust... Easier to do it now rather than with a body on top! $200 saw me with a length of 2.5" pipe, several mandrel bends, a Redback Muffler with minimal muffling, and a few well placed bends in the length of pipe. Another weekend and a $50 pressure Pak can of heat...

Thanks Thor1950, yeah, welder boilermaker by trade... That's what managed to get us permanent res here down under! Front prop next.... Half the original rear prop and half of the bent Disco rear cut to suit! Well, looks like it'll work. I've only had one home made prop fail..... and that was in...

SWIMBO's Ser 2 Tdi... The Beginning!

As said on here, the rear prop is small.... made worse by this vehicle... The Aussie Army shorty's have the extended spring hangers like the UK LWB's so the rear prop angle is 'borderline'! Hoping with a bit of weight, ROPS and rear mounted spare will bring the arse down a bit....

Next was to remove the gearbox x member and bell housing x member and loosely fit the gearbox and transfer box. A weekend later and both rear mounts were fabricated and the original gearbox x member re located and refitted.

It was at this point that the project halted again. The 130's camp body build got in the way! Recently got back into it a the onset of another 101 has made the wife realise that if that arrives nothing will get done! So, time to sit the Tdi in and see what 'will' and what 'won't'. A few weeks later, the Tdi was collected, and it came with one 3.54:1 diff, a bent rear prop, rad, intercooler fuel filter housing and a few other odd bits. I turned the gearbox down as I knew I'd need the short LT77. That appeared about 3 months ago via Ebay.. $900 later and it arrived along...

SWIMBO's Ser 2 Tdi... The Beginning!

It was at this point that the project halted for a while. I ended up working in the mines for a bit, we got married, and our social life here is just flat out. In the middle of this I'd become heavily involved with the local State funded Volunteer Fire Service here in SA called the CFS. When the...
