    Defender Bulkhead

yes, although footwells are a different shape and trans tunnel is also a different shape. if you have an earlier 90/110 bulkhead and cut out the footwells and centre section they are almost identical to a series 3 one. I have a 110 bulkhead (approx 1985) fitted on my late 2a.

low range locks wheels on possible buy????

it might have different ratio diffs front/rear in it. on a grippy surface like a road it would appear as locked, but on mud/grass it might drag itself along. series landies should have 4.7:1 diffs, although range rover classic/early discovery diffs also fit but have 3.54:1 ratio. other...

    Weller wheel swap for original

those type of wheels come in both 15" and 16". If you've got the 15" you won't be able to swap the tyres onto landy rims when you get them ... landy rims are 16".

    Head Gasket ???

Leads, plugs and dizzy cap - but did you change the condensor? when they go they can give misfiring symptoms.

Just about to go and buy my first series 3!

If you jack it up and twiddle each adjuster in turn you'll soon figure out which way they rotate to tighten. A complete brake overhaul kit isn't expensive on these things. Difficult to really tell if a Series Landy is genuine as so many parts get swapped out and changed over the years. Most...

Just about to go and buy my first series 3!

Very tidy indeed. If it's genuine that's one very early Series 3. Hope there's still room in the shed for a motor roller though Dave!

prop too short after fitting parabolics

good thinking. just make sure it goes short enough to avoid damage to transfer box and diff on full suspension compression. with extended shackles you may want to consider extended bump stops to avoid overflexing springs.

Series III - Towing 2 Ton?

It'll manage 2 tons happily - and more - but you'll be grinding along in the low gears and the slightest gradient will have you down to 2nd. You won't be popular with the folk behind you.

    todays project fuel tank

good effort - that won't rot through in a hurry - nice chunky bit of plate.

I'll give him one thing though ... they're supremely tidy welds!

    Rear Axle strengthening Bit...Rotted away

Yeah - the forces work a bit like the wires on a suspension bridge. ... don't need to be joined all the way down. Was a little disappointed with the fabricater - he's class 1 Lloyds coded and oughter have known better. Anyway I straightened it without too much bother - the curve was very...

prop too short after fitting parabolics

No idea how long it is, but at a guess - roughly the length of an 88" SWB rear one, plus the difference between 88" and 109", minus a little bit because I think most 109's have a Salisbury rear diff which I'm led to believe has a slightly longer nose.

prop too short after fitting parabolics

I had a prop shortened a while back by the propshaft clinic (enquiries@propshaft.co.uk) for - i think - £55+VAT including posting back to me. I doubt if lengthening would be much more. If you have a spare LWB rear shaft you could get this shortened to the right dimensions. however ... by...

    Re-glazing door tops

there's a good 'how to' guide in the "Haynes Land Rover Series I,II & III guide to Purchase & DIY Restoration" I've got the older version of the book with a pic of a 2a on the front. try this search on eBay haynes land resto series, Vehicle Parts Accessories, Books, Comics Magazines items...

    Rear Axle strengthening Bit...Rotted away

a note of caution to anyone who does weld on a replacement stiffener ... as I did ... I cut one side off a section of 3mm box to make my stiffener, copying the original. my small MIG welder only goes up to 130a on a good day, so I dropped it in with a fabricator up the road to give it a good...

    suspension dillema..

in your old leaf springs, every time they flexed several plates had to slide across each other, usually with loads of rust between them. this absorbs a lot of energy, and is effectively a suspension damper. changing to parabolics ... (usually 2 or 3 leaves only, and often with teflon/PTFE...

    PTO take offs?

The rear PTO kits are getting fairly rare. I sold mine last year - the whole kit from gearbox to final drive including towbar - for £500. As for whether the Landy would be powerful enough - you may be able to find out the required HP to drive the gang mowers (data plate?), and do some sums as...

hi what is this part for ?

You've probably got an overdrive fitted. These are the leftover parts from the original vehicle that are no longer required. If you are considering finding a new home for them, have a read of this thread then get in touch with the author as these are the parts he's looking for...
