Norman the 90 is making a funny noise.

From cold on parking bay, no more noises than usual in or out of gear. After drive for couple of miles a rythmic chuffing noise, engine speed related, push clutch down and noise stops, no difference if free wheeling or parked. Noise is there wether in gear or not, t'box engaged or in neutral...

Thanks for that, I have decided to pull the engine, and while having a look see I might as well replace the clutch and associated parts at the same time. After all, even if it isn't the clutch then at least I will know it's all renewed.

Norman the 90 is making a funny noise.

Pretty certain now that the noise is from within the bell housing, so in all probability the clutch thrust bearing. I guess sometime in the very near future I will have to split everything and have a look, and if I am doing that I might just as well change the clutch. I shall borrow a mates...

Norman the 90 is making a funny noise.

That would be a good outcome, easier than a clutch job, but the noise stops when the clutch pedal is depressed. Will have to have a butchers at the bulkhead tomorrow.

Norman the 90 is making a funny noise.

As above, last couple of days I have noticed a bit of a chuffing noise, might have been going on for a while as you cant hear it with the radio competing with the rest of the noises a 200 Tdi 90 makes. OK, so 1990 200 Tdi 90. Around 180k miles. Disco tranny box. From start up everything sounds...

Strata Florida track in my tratter

You might have a look at CCROC (Cheltenham & Cotswolds Rover Owners Club), I was a member for a lot of years until we moved to France, I have lost touch with the club so don't know what they do nowadays, but we used to have a fair few green lane days all around Glos/Wilts/Hereford/the forest...

    1997 Defender swivel top up

If your really worried about it, turn the wheel as above to clear the way, then dip the level with a length of wire or similar. Don't drop it in.

What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

Not actually to the landy, but on it. I have managed after over a week of faffing about on my computer to load a huge playlist to micro usb to fit in the radio. Much to my surprise it actually works. :):):) Now how the hell is it possible to get 450 songs/tracks on something smaller than my...

    Defender Snow Plough Recommendations

Be very careful, I don't know if this will be relevant, but before the coal industry was binned one of my jobs was clearing snow to create lanes for vehicles and foot traffic on site. Now then........if someone had a fall on virgin snow, that was hard luck, if someone had a fall on a walkway we...

What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

Treated the 90 to a good pressure washing today after yesterday afternoons green laning with the local LR club. It was their end of year drive, so very low key and non damaging as all and sundry partake. Still managed around 45 Km off tarmac, and ended up at my mates restaurant for a mega...

    Gearbox Crossmember replacement

Also to bear in mind................with the chassis being in the state it is in I can pretty well quarantee that when the cross member comes out there will be a hole in the chassis where it is hidden by the ends of the cross member. So not going to be just a bolt out---bolt in job.

What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

Fixed the steering on me 90. I had noticed the steering getting a bit optional lately, not too bad but needing to constantly be making minor corrections to keep in a straight line. I had fitted a refurbed steering box a couple of years ago so wasn't that but did think the drop arm might need a...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

When I was a kid I made a longbow in a sort of after school club thing, took us a couple of months at one evening a week. Twot that was the instructor didn't tell us about warming the bow up first, I bust mine the first time I put an arrow on the string. Literally finished the nocks, put the...
