Series 3 Back on the road!

Congratulations! Good work. Got any pics of the finished article?

    Looking for specialist in Hertfordshire

Probably a bit too far north for you, just north of Buntingford in Herts. These are good guys, experienced with Land Rover Series vehicles. I have only had to use them once, but got a very good impression - they sorted the timing on my Series 3 in an hour, after I had spent many many hours...

    Series 3 109

You've posted photos. A lot to consider. looks like an original late series 3 petrol 2.25 under the bonnet. It will clearly need new footwells, but these are widely available. I can't see any major rus on the bulkhead, but given the rest of the rust, this seems likely, but hopefully not. Chassis...

    Series 3 109

Sounds like an exciting project. It will be great to involve the kids. What an inspiring idea. I am sure people will help if they can. As you say, pictures will help and if you start the specific questions...Good luck.

Six appeal - six cylinder Land Rovers - let's see them!

That’s a great looking truck. Good to see it doing what it was made for.

Looks great! I do think the late 2a grill looks cool. And you get a muff as well! Good luck.

    Looking for my perfect series

On the subject of background reading, this is well worth a look: http://www.glencoyne.co.uk/liveguide.htm Written by Richard Hall, Land Rover specialist in Norfolk. He writes a monthly column in Land Rover Monthly. It’s also worth buying his book...

    Looking for my perfect series

The Series 2a on eBay looks like a fair bet. The galvanised chassis is a real plus. I spoke to the seller when I was looking for my series. As you say a nice guy, and a small Land Rover specialist who has been around for a good few years. Knows his stuff and seems trustworthy. He has a basic...

    Looking for my perfect series

As Disco 1 BFG says, I would avoid the Car and Classic auction series 2. Looks like a tart up job to me. Paintwork is ropey and scary rust patches. V8 sounds appealing, but sounds like a can of worms to me. Better to go with something more standard/original. The 1985 Series 3 looks overpriced...

    Looking for my perfect series

Petrol is your best bet, for all reasons above. You will also have a chance of adjusting the petrol yourself if it is not running well. I understand diesels are harder to adjust for the home mechanic. Re emissions, I understand petrol cars may be exempt from certain low emission zones in cities...

Another one to consider....https://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/land+rover/series+2/aetv13052319 Not a galvanised chassis, but you can have this checked out. The refurbishment has been done by a well known chap who is active on Insta. The paintwork is pretty original rather than a respray. As...

    Looking for my perfect series

I agree, your budget would also get you a really good series 2. I also agree that the pricing of series vehicles is a minefield. It really is all over the place. A good call to get a specialist to look over the one you think is a good buy. Series 2s tend to be more expensive than series 3s, all...

    Looking for my perfect series

Hi there, you've made a great choice! I bought a Series 3 SWB petrol 2.5 years ago and have loved every minute. First off, your budget of £15-16k should get you a superb example of a series 3, that has a galvanised chassis and has undergone a quality restoration. Maybe not 'Williams Classics'...

Series 3 Kind of surver - average upkeep cost per year

Hi there, I have owned a Series 3 1974 petrol for 2.5 years now. I have done around 2-3,000 miles per year in that time (using it on short journeys, two or three times a week). Maintenance and upkeep costs have amounted to oil and filter change (around £35 per year); transmission and axle oils...

    series 3 wheels and tyres??

Yes, assuming 5" is the standard Series 3 SWB rim. I use Avon Rangemasters 7.5/16 on my SWB rims, with tubes. They're good tyres. The steering would be lighter with 6/16 tyres though. The gearing is higher with larger tyres on a standard SWB, so in theory you should change the speedo, otherwise...

    Hertfordshire Mechanic

You could try Howe Engineering, at Hare Street, near Buntingford, Herts. Independent Land Rover (and Saab) specialist. I was pleased with their service.

    Series 3 1977 - SWB Rebuild - Slowly......

Looks like you're doing a great job! I agree, it's worth retaining the original paintwork. Saying that, I didn't know that County models were introduced in 1977? I thought they were introduced in the 1980s. I stand to be corrected though...Keep posting more photos.
