As Disco 1 BFG says, I would avoid the Car and Classic auction series 2. Looks like a tart up job to me. Paintwork is ropey and scary rust patches. V8 sounds appealing, but sounds like a can of worms to me. Better to go with something more standard/original. The 1985 Series 3 looks overpriced...

Petrol is your best bet, for all reasons above. You will also have a chance of adjusting the petrol yourself if it is not running well. I understand diesels are harder to adjust for the home mechanic. Re emissions, I understand petrol cars may be exempt from certain low emission zones in cities...

Yes, assuming 5" is the standard Series 3 SWB rim. I use Avon Rangemasters 7.5/16 on my SWB rims, with tubes. They're good tyres. The steering would be lighter with 6/16 tyres though. The gearing is higher with larger tyres on a standard SWB, so in theory you should change the speedo, otherwise...

Looks like you're doing a great job! I agree, it's worth retaining the original paintwork. Saying that, I didn't know that County models were introduced in 1977? I thought they were introduced in the 1980s. I stand to be corrected though...Keep posting more photos.
