Yeah hopefully. When I was undoing the rocker shaft nuts they where loose . I just undone them with my fingers.

I have looked over the rocker and can't see anything missing or broke. Everything looks normal other than these bits appearing from somewhere.

Just an update. I found the cause in the end. It was my winch box that had shortened out inside.

I put my spare starter in it so hopefully it's not the solenoid. I'll have a look at the relay.

I tried the trick between the earth and battery today and it didn't come up with anything. I have a new battery on it. I have a reading of 14.4 on the back of the alternator. The new battery is reading 13.67 and the old battery that I thought was knackered is reading 13.96. even more confused now

I have recently fitted a second hand engine to my discovery 1, And have now got a couple of issues. As far as I can see I have put all all wiring back where it should be but since it has been done I am having issues with the starter motor and the battery. I changed the starter for my spare one...

In the end I change the flange and the seal. Stripped it all down and couldn't see anything wrong with it not leaking oil anymore either

Yeah I understand that. its just I started stripping it down because I think the bearing on the shaft is possibly on its way out.

Yea I have brought a complete flange kit. How hard is it to get the shaft out of the transfer box? It's a discovery 1 so has diff lock.( Not sure if that makes a difference.) I'm not sure if the bearing on mine is on its way out.

Thanks. It does say on there oil seal quantity 2. So maybe the.mudshield is just missing

Ok thanks. Strange it's not on there then. I know my transfer box on my car has a mud shield because I can see it.

I'm fitting it in to another transfer box I have brought so not sure on the car colour. There should be a mud shield then?
