    Early V6 models..?

Hey all, I'm considering looking for an early model V6 auto to use as my daily transport and have several questions before I start looking around: 1) Are there any known reliability probs with this engine (not withstanding the usual FSH only, etc)? 2) Are there any known reliability probs...

Should I go with a lift kit or heavy duty springs?

Thanks Robert, I've gone with Monroe shocks and 1.5" HD springs from Britpart. These will go together with the polybush kit. Hope to get it all fitted soon (next weekend, weather permitting) so that I can get out without repeatedly beating my cross-member anymore!!! Thanks for the...

Any hints or tips for a first-time builder of a CCV vehicle?

Hadn't made a descision on springs yet, wanted to see what was said here first off. Quite like the idea of leafs though, something nostalgic?(!) The vehicle would be used solely for competition so would only need to pass an MOT to get tax for RTV, road manners wouldn't matter too much as long...

    V8's, The ultimate landy engine!!

Cool. Gives me something to aim for!!! Reckon on a full strip and rebuild if/as/when something major goes pear-shaped. Then I can start polishing things; practiced on an old ford cvh engine years back, worked a treat! Thanks, be good to see some returns like that... Chris

Any hints or tips for a first-time builder of a CCV vehicle?

Aloha all, I'm considering buying a vehicle specifically to modify for both CCV and RTV competition. I would like to spend in the region of £3k on initial purchase and all necessary parts, and can carry out most work myself (exceptions being welding and heavy lifting, i.e. engine out). I...

Should I go with a lift kit or heavy duty springs?

Poor percy has very tired suspension and is in dire need of a new set of of springs, shocks and bushes. He will be getting poly-bushes, regardless of which set-up we go with. Last weekend we competed in our club RTV trials and found that we were scraping the chassis on just about every bump...

    V8's, The ultimate landy engine!!

Hey strange, where'd you find a 200tdi doing 40mpg? Mine's only done 55k, fully doc'd with all receipts and history, and I get 25mpg at best...

    What Landie to buy?

Check auto trader; 3k will get you an awful lot of disco for your money. You'll be pushed to find a good Tdi defender in that price bracket, and besides that you'll find that most discos are already equipped for towing!!!

Double cab advice for a newbie please?

You could convert a 3 or 5 door, both have been converted successfully in the past. You will need to fabricate some panels, or modify existing ones, but there is the beauty of Defenders; you can build it exactly how YOU want it!!! I've not done it myself, so I can't give you a comprehensive...

    Diff Lock

The diff lock on a standard, factory vehicle works by locking the front and rear drive shafts together. There are three diffs, one on each axle and one between the two drive shafts. Without the diff lock engaged you will be able to loose drive with just one wheel spinning (i.e. on ice or mud)...

    200tdi Clutch Problem

Check the fluid level and get the system bled, proffessionally if you are at all unsure of what you're doing. Then take it from there... Chris

Fuel Consumption & general running costs

You'll be looking at mpg in the low-to-mid 20's if you're lucky. It will of course depend on how heavy you are with your right foot (the lighter the better), what type of rubber you want it to wear (road-biased tyres will help to return a higher mpg), and how well the engine/vehicle has been...

    Serious wading preparation?

Aloha all!!! I'm busily preparing my 200TDi 90 for some serious wading. I've got all the raised breathers to run up into my raised intake but have hit a snag whilst sealing the intake pipework. Just behind the outer wing skin, below the original intake, is a small rubber grommet, which I...
