Had a look James through the head the cup looks just like the others used another rod and it's free to slide up and down, pulled off the front cover and timing is all correct not jumped teeth. Safe to leave the head on or is there a risk I've damaged piston driving it ?

yeah i suppose thats where it must have gone, just felt a bit of a dumbass presuming being a land rover the gauge was faulty when in fact it was working perfectly :p yeah there the same sides, i just cut to take the windows.

Yes can't remember exactly what the problem was but basically wrong wire on alternator terminal so was powering the start stop solenoid .

Check your alternator wiring that was the problem when mine did that.

one thing that does concern me about these engines is the weight, you reckon a basic engine crane is suitable for lifting one? mine was making some noises with just the 300 on it and i assume these are a fair chunk heavier. on another note axle looking good, wont be long till your chucking these...
