Steering relay - usual issues but cv grease?

Just ordered one too, thanks for that. They were running out of them fast!

Thanks, did they take long to arrive?

Actually, scrap that, I can see it’s different, the ends are bigger!

Steering relay - usual issues but cv grease?

Thanks, I did see that one, a month delivery is a bit of a drawback tbh. Does anyone know the difference between the shaft for a series and this one?, https://www.101parts.co.uk/shop/steering/steering-box/shaft-for-steering-relay-lever-genuine/

Steering relay - usual issues but cv grease?

I’d think if you use the same retaining ring, it’ll be ok? And come out easier next time… where did you get the NOS shaft? The ones available seem to be £200 upwards!

Steering relay - usual issues but cv grease?

thanks, but to my mind, after removing the inners, it’s fooked! No?

Steering relay - usual issues but cv grease?

It’s quite stiff. So I was going to run the correct oil through it and replace seals and gaskets. But as it’s got cv grease in it was thinking of taking apart to check it thoroughly.

Steering relay - usual issues but cv grease?

Evening… fun and games this weekend include trying to free the relay! Read everything on this subject, and mine is one of the stuck solid variety. I’ve had a bit of a play jacking the car up on it and a few “taps” but no sign of any movement. Might well end up servicing it in situ. First though...

    Tyre help

Thanks for the replies. I’ve sourced a set of defender wheels with good 205r16 tyres… I’ve painted them limestone… sorted. It has highlighted how bad something is in the steering. So, next step is to remove the relay as it seems to be full of gunk resembling cv grease…. Also, I’ve found the...

    Tyre help

Afternoon. Quick update… and trying to fathom what else might be going on… I’ve just noticed the PO has fitted different sized wheels on the front axle! One is an original 5” wide, the other a replacement new wheel which is 5.5”. Bit of Googling suggests with the same tyres and offset it might...

Ah, yes. Definitely no lip and floating about in the hole. So tubed tubeless tyres on these.

    Tyre help

Thanks for the replies. I’ve got some rims now with number ANR4636. Think they’re 5.5 16’s. But don’t know if they’re tubeless or not. They have tubeless tyres on, but I suspect they’re tubed too. Can you tell from the valve? Not sure where I’m going with this tbh. These next to the 600 16’s...

    Tyre help

So, I’ve been told my S111 SWB wayward steering is probably not helped by the “security” 6.00 16LT tyres, and that putting some radials on will help somewhat on the road. I think I’ll be mostly on the road, so I’m looking to change them. Bit confused about tubes and radials etc, and what I...

S3 2.25 petrol front crank seal

Hi, recently did this job. I’d recommend you don’t try to do it without removing the timing cover. I did and ended up having to then do it properly as the self tappers snapped. If you do remove the timing cover, the mud shield will stay in place with the original rivets. You could decide to...

Yeah, thanks. I think the spring is on the shaft but dropped down... need a guide/cover if anyone’s got one... not a part you see for sale often..

Series 3 SWB rear fixed hard top side glass

Hi, does anyone know where I might be able to get the fixed glass for a series 3? I can find the shorter 700mm long glass for earlier series, but not the approx 900mm long ones. Or am I going to have to find used ones? Cheers.

True. I’m expecting that the pin should drop down and the knob come up, when encouraged whilst putting in LR. Does this look right? Is that a cover on the end of the shafts that might be gunky? Or is is right that the pin won’t go in until the prop is back on giving some resistance? I’ll...

Well, something was stuck, but with it in reverse and not running, the red lever shifted and I could select low. Been ok since... must be as it’s been sat a while..... Convinced the yellow knob does nothing though...
