    Doctor, is this normal?!

I pulled this out this afternoon! I have sent a copy to Ashcrofts as this was the first oils change since their rebuild 32,000 miles ago... Should I be worried??

    td5 breather pipe

I just got around to replacing my PCV valve... following a recommendation somewhere that this should almost be a service item. When blowing through the new PCV it definitely closed, but the old one didn't! May have saved installing a catch can/Mann+Hummel Provent for now...

Discovery Box in a TD5 Defender, my experience

Same here 26-28mpg... went a fair bit lower doing 80 on the rush for the ferry coming back from France last year! My set up: 90 TD5 10p, 1:2 Transfer box from Ashcrofts, Alive stage 1 tune, larger intercooler, electric fan, egr bypass, K&N air filter, with a tweak on the boost too... I also have...

    acoustic engine blanket

There's another thread on Lead Blankets... I'm sorry I'm not up on links... but I have the Noisekiller front soundproofing kit - under bonnet and front cab/footwells/seatbox/transmission tunnel... they offered a discount for their engine blankets after buying the kit... but didn't have the dosh...

    Lead Blankets!! ??

I ordered the Noisekiller Large 900x500... they gave me a discount code: CLUB10 to get a 10% discount.

Kumbu-Kumbu Safari: Cape Town to Dar es Salaam in a Disco TD5

VERY envious of your trip... I will follow your progress.... I spent nearly 10 years working on farms in Zambia and Malawi... don't rule out Zambia especially North and South Luangwa... I also spent a very adventurous week in the far north of Zambia touring various waterfalls, ending up...

    Discovery Td5 spares?

Millers Trident Semi-synthetic 5w30 is a good oil, and is usually available on eBay for a good price.

    Tool Box

The next question.... is how do secure all this kit down so it doesn't attack you when - god forbid- you have an accident:eek:

    Discovery Td5 spares?

I do prefer genuine parts when I can afford them, but I would buy a cheap fuel pump just for piece of mind... I also carry a spare MAF, wheel bearing kit, UJ... and a selection of fluids/oils etc... oh and get your battery tested while you're at it. Prevention is better than cure, so a thorough...

    defender TD5 90, 2003 rear axle overhaul

Interesting... I just re-bushed mine, and plumped for genuine bushes as the originals had lasted 14years/115,000 miles... hoping the next set last that long... BUT I have just fitted the Superpro ones to replace the rubber genuine lower rear shock bushes, as my 90 seems to chew through them fast...

    Oil pump bolt

It does seem to be a grey area, as Land Rover do not appear to have a record of the first engine No. to have thread-lock on this bolt!... of those done, were they all loose!? ... no chance of you going to Valloire show with a bag of spanners is there?... maybe I should really do it before I...

    defender TD5 90, 2003 rear axle overhaul

Plus Gas is the best I have come across. I don't usually have the time to work off the vehicle, so usually end up underneath with eyes full of crap!... ideally I would remove the whole axle, you'll be able to clean and paint it much better, as well as retaining your eyesight... If you have a...

    Bulkhead confessional...

Nice job... what a turn around from your first picture...thought the paintwork was badly oxidised, but I guess a good wash and polish has brought her up nicely.... Happy camping:)

    Oil pump bolt

Another job to add to the list.... How many miles had yours done? I'm on 117K, on a 2001MY 10P now so thinking I may have got away with it!?... also how long do you rekon it took you?

defender td5 centrifugal oil filter housing bolts

I managed to strip the threads on mine too... luckily I still had enough thread left to just fit a longer bolt. I have also dropped the bolt and took ages to get it out from behind the engine mount, between the block and the mount!... this may be the new location of your missing nut?

    fuel system cleaning

I dabbled in veg oil a while back... seemed to give a bit more power/smoother - probably just in my mind!... but this may have introduced a diesel bug into my system, or I have been told the veg oil can dislodge crud in the fuel system, which in turn causes blockages... I ended up pulling my...

anybody heard of a driven trailer

Or you could get a caravan 'motor mover' set up... seems to work well, you see these caravans on the move with remote control... bit harder to match wheel speeds in an off road situation when hitched to the tow vehicle... hmmm just thinking aloud?!

Fitting the Spare on the inside of the back door

Do you have a link for the folks that supply these... I remember seeing a picture, but cannot find one?

    Etch priming bodywork

When I had to replace my rear door I did the usual prep, and used a 2K primer all over with no problems... I was only using cans as it was just one panel... if in doubt try a small patch/panel of primer on the old paint before you commit to the whole vehicle.
