I need to know what the material is inside the 1995 muffler

Hello, I may have breathed in the fibre material when cutting up my 1995 Disc 300 tdi rear muffler. Can anyone please tell me if its: Asbestos, Rock wool or Glass wool.

How do I remove the low range knob rubber boot

Hello, I want to run a cable down through the centre console under the car (as its too hard and too risky to drill through the fire wall). I thought I'd remove the low range shaft rubber boot to try and thread a wire through but the boot does not want to come off easily, (yes I have unscrewed...

any help on how to turn up boost on turbo

Hi, I like the vehicle. Its well built and I can tinker with it. I'm quite conservative and just want to improve the HP a bit to make it more drivable. So far my slight mods have made a distinct improvement. I will be fitting the meters shortly to check I don't exceed limits when pulling a...

    300Tdi Crankcase Ventilation Valve

I've read a fair bit more since, and it seems the norm is to simply fit a catch can to the end of the hose.

    Thanks for the advice guys.

    300Tdi Crankcase Ventilation Valve

Hello, Can I just remove the small crankcase ventilation suction hose from the turbo air inlet and block it off (both ends)? In effect the crankcase and the rockercover would be connected directly together via the crankcase ventilation valve. Would this cause a pressure problem? or...

    Egr Blanking Mod

My 1995 300 tdi has the small (about 3/4 inch)breather hose connected to the large engine air hose between the air filter box and the turbo inlet so the crankcase/rocker cover has the air sucked out. I want to stop the oily air being sucked into the turbo. If I take the breather hose off the...

any help on how to turn up boost on turbo

Ok, I'v got it. Its got a waste gate. But what about the fine water spray option question?

Finding a wiring diagram - what a nightmare

Ok, I suppose you are right. The amount of heat soaking into the block and hence the water jacket as a result of being a lead foot is probably minimal. Looks like I'll just add an over temp warning buzzer and be happy about it. Maybe that way the buzzer will be so annoying, I'll have to back...

any help on how to turn up boost on turbo

 Hello again. I'm learning, slowly. Does this mean I have to remove the turbo if I want to shorten the wastegate rod ? Another question: As my vehicle goes better on (cool moisture laden air) days, I wonder if anyone has tried the old water injection trick, but rather than just...

    viscous vs electric fans

Thanks guys. I am guessing that because the air radiator and filter are sitting in front of the water radiator, they must block the natural air flow somewhat and the motor is working harder to push the vehicle along at the same speed when the air compressor is on. Hence the electric fans...

300tdi timing belt, 10,000 miles but 7 years

No quite cheap. They are the ones machined from one piece, not the origional fabricated ones. They are available on ebay.

any help on how to turn up boost on turbo

Hello, I am fairly sure I don't have a waste gate? If I do, its not visible on the outside. Is it inside the turbo ? There are no ancillary connections to the exhaust and no ancillary connections to the air system.

Who has tweaked their fuel pump to produce better driving characteristics???

The water bubbler sounds interesting, but I am not sure how it could work because to draw the large flow of air through water it would need a large water tank and the pressure drop would be significant. I wonder if better to simply inject water at high pressure using a fine atomising nozzel...

Finding a wiring diagram - what a nightmare

Thanks kindly for your assistance guys. I didnt explain myself well. I am doing the fuel tweaks so as to up the HP. I have already carried out the tweaks on the fuel pump but only conservatively and it does improve the HP and drivability, much smoother. Just to ensure I am not pushing things...

    electric fan 300tdi

Bummer. I thought that they were operated from a thermostat when the water temp got too high. I suppose it would not hurt to have them come on during high EGT though. Thanks for that info.

Finding a wiring diagram - what a nightmare

Hello, I have a 1995 300 tdi auto. I have spent the best part of an entire day dearching the internet for a wiring diagram at no charge. In particular I am looking for the circuit for the twin engine cooling fans. I want to have then run when my controller detects that the exhaust gas...

    electric fan 300tdi

My standard 1995 300 tdi comes with two electric fans in front of the radiator and the viscous fan behind. So I presume you can order the standard fans. I have never heard the electric fans start up. Maybe I should wire them in to a digital WGT meter at the alarm set point to turn them on?

Who has tweaked their fuel pump to produce better driving characteristics???

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll order a boost pressure gauge but there does not seem to be anywhere to connect it. My vehicle has no wastegate etc. I am guessing I have to remove the inlet manifold and tap it? Unless there is a plug hidden at the back of the manifold where I cannot see it ...

    Belt tensioner bearings

My 1995 tdi goes through a belt tensioner about every 2 years. The aftermarket cheap ones cost me about $150 each time. My mechanic keeps telling me that the bearings are not changeable because they are cheapies. If I buy the genuine part it will be even more. I think next time, I'll buy on...
