    North Yorkshire Lanes

Thanks all for making the gaylanderer feel welcome, looking forward to Saturday, lets hope I dont make a right tit of myself & have to be towed everywhere!

    North Yorkshire Lanes

I think with an angle grinder & a big hammer I should be able to fit a set of 44" MTs under the arches? Seriously, I know a freelander has limits far lower than a "real" landy, just want to come up & listen to the craic & hopefully learn something

The meet tomorrow night still on? If so I should be able to get rid of my customers & get there for 8ish

    Greenlanes around Holmfirth

Great vids all the same! I can see this getting expensive, quickly, already spending money I havent got by looking through the autotrader for a cheap disco or 'fender. I'd have to do the cooking or dishes for a long time before I get enough brownie points with Mrs Bulb to do something like...

Looks like fun was had by all in Wales, methinks my freebie wouldnt have been happy through some of the water crossings though!

    Buying used tyres and alloys

I obviously cant comment on the state of the alloys or the actual tyres fitted to the rims but I can confirm that Grabber AT's are a fantastic tyre both on road & off. Slightly increased road noise but that about it, work really well in mud etc

    Caravaning and a Freelander

Never towed a caravan but I regulary tow the missus' horsebox with 2 horses in it, last time I took it over a public weigh bridge it weighed 1950KGs total. Besides the obvious issues when climbing steep hills I think the Freelander is a decent tow car, never once felt concerned over the...

Sounds like the problem only surfaces when the radio is on..? You could always leave it off & entertain the kids by playing eye-spy or singing "the wheels on the bus"? I blame Nick too, dont know who he is but its got to be his fault! On a serious note; good luck in finding the problem...

    North Yorkshire Lanes

I usually find that turning the stereo up a couple of notches usually cures most bumps, clicking & squeaks. My money would have been on a CV joint if the clicking was only apparent on lock but if its there when running straight it almost certainly rules that out. Wheel bearing on its way out...

Yeah, I've got used to the gaylander jibes, I've got skin thicker than a rhinoceros so I'm sure I'll survive :D See you next Monday, I'll remember my flame retardant undercrackers.

Any chance of a newbie tagging along to the pub meet? Mon 3rd Sept, 8pm, Silver Birch - BD19 3QE? Would be good to listen to people talking that know something about laning & hopefully get some real advice instead of a lot of conflicting nonsense I keep finding on t'interwebs.

    Greenlanes around Holmfirth

Thread hijack, sorry about this... I'm local to that area, new in general to green laning & wouldnt mind learning from people much more experienced than myself. If a trip gets planned can I be cheeky & tag along? If so feel free to PM me the details, I'd really appreciate it!

    green laning

I've been tempted to ask the same question about the same area a few times but didnt because of the reasons stated above; Too many tits abusing the lanes, lots of hard work to actually find the lanes, then making sure they're open for use. Sounds like hours of preparation before you set off...

Thanks for the heads up, looks like I'll be buying on the gate as well, see what the weathers like on the day.

    wheels/tyres

I think you'll be suprised how little weight difference there is between a 17" & 15" alloy with tyres fitted. Regardless of rim size, either 15" 16" or 17" need the same (almost) circumference. I'd assume that the steel rims would be marginally heavier than alloy. Finally for all this...

    New Tyres

And a slightly modified chassis! :D Looks good though, really good!

    New Tyres

Having lived with GT Grabber ATs for the last couple of weeks I can honestly say I cant fault them. A little more of a rumble on the road but I've yet to have them stuck off road in either very muddy fields while shooting or on the off road course at Billing. Couldnt recommend them enough

    water Leak then no leak

Sorry for asking the dumb question but you're not mistaking the leak as the drain from your a/c?
