Hello all.....Over the last month or so i've noticed a whine" from the engine on my 1999MY 2.5 TD5 (most definately a new noise), i'm fairly sure it's not transmission related as the "whine" can be heard when stationary in neutral with foot off the clutch. The noise is relative to the engine...

100% correct diagnosis....one of the battery holder legs had detached /snapped from the circuit board...just finished resoldering it (leg snapped off so impovised), thank you for your help and hope this write up may help another owner in the future.......TS

Sorry for not replying (on hols).....The ECU was naff & yes sent it to ECU testing.com...they do not send you a report with it, in fact they dont ask for feedback if the ECU worked or not !! In my case it did work & no recoding was necessary as it was my original ECU i got back. After a whole...

For anyone interested....the fault was the ECU.

Well....been out there again this morning...the battery has been on charge all last night and showing full at 12.4V..I removed the crank pos sensor plug as it was a bit oily and cleaned it with elec cleaner...made no difference!! Checked all the fuses regardless just in case...they are all ok...

Yes...ive read the Starting - Operation and it details how the fuel pump gets grounded by the ECU....ive printed out a few sections from this and the Circuit diagrames so as i can follow with a DVM....I will be on it again tomorrow so i will feedback on the progress !!!!!
