Defender TD5 swivel suddenly leaks oil

Hi, thanks for responding. I havent tried that but the oil stooped draining after a while so I assume there was very little in there anyway. The fact that oil can escape I assume means that the seals are not good but I cant understand why there was no sign of leaking before, really confusing!!

Defender TD5 swivel suddenly leaks oil

Started the job of replacing front discs and calipers my 2001 Defender today as soon as I removed one of the bolts that holds the flexible brake pipe bracket to the top of the swivel housing oil leaked from the bottom of the swivel, between the swivel seal and the swivel itself. The same thing...

    Ineos Grenadier

I have a feeling this manufacturer will not be publishing a leak cure manual like LR has for the Def! I also think this will give LR a big headache after their lazy 'clone' of the LR range with the new Defender - they seem to have little understanding of why the Defender was so universally liked

BEST PLACE FOR FRONT DISCS, CALIPERS, PADS

Checked all of my discs, pads and calipers today and on the front ones two or more pistons are really rusted up so I need to replace them. We welcome any suggestions where to get a full kit of parts of good quality including all the small bits needed. Normally used Paddocks or JGS 4X4 , anybody...

Defender 90 roof liner material question?

I just changed the headlining and my Defender and used headlining material bought from a supplier on eBay, it’s not quite a match to the original but it looks a lot better than the very filthy stuff that was on there and saggy. The original material I removed seems quite like plastic/PVC so I’m...

ALTERNATIVE TO DEFENDER REAR WIPER MOTOR

Does anybody have experience of replacing the Defender rear wiper motor with an alternative? Mine is completely shot and Defender ones are pricey but I noticed that there are quite a few Discovery 2 motors around much cheaper, they look almost similar and perhaps could fit with a bit of...

WELDING CHASSIS, DISCONNECT BATTERY AND WHAT ELSE???

I'm about to weld on (MIGwelder) a new crossmember to my Defender TD5 and I've been trying to find some definitive words on what should be done to protect the electrics. Seems there is quite a lot of different opinions on various forums about whether the battery, alternator and ECU should be...

REAR CROSSMEMBER REPLACEMENT TD5 - REAR FLOOR REMOVE?

Thanks to all those who responded to my previous post on where to obtain a new rear crossmember for a TD5. As in my original post the majority of my chassis is good so I really only need the rear crossmember section with short extensions. From what I can see this will make it almost impossible...

    90 REAR CROSSMEMBER RECOMMENDATION

Checked Paddocks website, they have some good stuff – unfortunately closed due to virus but I will investigate further when they reopen. Pictures on their website are rather limited in what you can see, shame they don't use better Thanks for your response

    90 REAR CROSSMEMBER RECOMMENDATION

Thanks for the picture, I looked up Dixon Fabrications website, serious piece of kit at 6 mm steel thickness, double what the majority are. Like most places their website says they are closed due to the virus understandably Again, appreciate your response

    90 REAR CROSSMEMBER RECOMMENDATION

thanks for your response and I know you are correct, replacing it is probably the best thing. Quite a bit of work involved though, dropping the fuel tank etc but I suspect it's the best solution. I would still like any recommendations people have from their experience as to who is a good...

    90 REAR CROSSMEMBER RECOMMENDATION

Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain outer (i.e. left and right) fabricated sections to repair the rear cross member on TD5 90? The center part of mine is quite solid, I could possibly try and fabricate replacement plates to weld on the outer sections but that would take far more time...

    REAR WIPER BRUSHES

Rear wiper on my TD5 wasn't working when I bought it and I have removed it today after checking that power was getting to it when the wiper switch was on, that's ok. What I found was apart from it being totally gummed up from water ingress one of the wires to the brushes had snapped off what...

SPARE WHEEL CARRIER - CHANGE TO ALLOYS

Does anybody have experience of changing from a steel spare wheel to an alloy on a standard TD5 door mounted rear wheel carrier. I just bought some boost alloys and replacing the original steel spare wheel with one of these I note that it goes too far back and hits on the rear wiper arm. It will...

WHERE TO TAKE POWER FEED FOR LIGHTS

Anyone have any experience or knowledge of where to connect new wiring to feed a set of front spot lamps (old-style 55 W) and two Helle rear LED work lights on a TD5 90? I already have new illuminated rocker switches installed in a panel under the radio so power to them first and then onto the...
