D2 Td5 POOR STARTING AFTER FUEL FILTER CHANGE

I think thats good advice and I have a spare so first thing to do. I've also been told that the one-way valve on the housing can jam open or get clogged and that allows air back in – anyone had that issue?

D2 Td5 POOR STARTING AFTER FUEL FILTER CHANGE

Thanks for your reply. Yes, as far as I am aware I sealed it ok with new rubber seal. Do you think it is air leaking in?

D2 Td5 POOR STARTING AFTER FUEL FILTER CHANGE

Did a fuel filter change on my Td5 D2 and after purging the air out it started fine. Next start was a little hesitant but ok, however since then if it hasn't been started for a couple of days it fires on cranking then cuts out, crank again and it will usually start but very 'lumpy' eventually...

    MANUAL GEARBOX DIESEL FLUSH

Thanks for the comments and suggestions, sorting through my garage I find I have some Dexron which I had for a previous vehicle and had forgotten about. Given that I have it a sensible choice seems to run it with that for a while on Dexron, drain and then refill with MTF. The opinions on using...

    MANUAL GEARBOX DIESEL FLUSH

So thanks to a split gearchange cover gaiter I have drained what looks like milkshake from my Discovery 2 gearbox, the vehicle is new to me so how long it has had oil contaminated with water in it I don't know, I suspect quite some time. Thankfully one of our great contributors to this site...

R380 MANUAL GEARBOX - WATER IN OIL - IS THERE A BREATHER??

I agree and have been looking online for a way to do that, most of the online info relates to auto transmissions. I did think of removing the gearlever cover plate and blitzing it with WD40 spray as that is a surfactant which would go right underneath any water and simply make it drain to the...

R380 MANUAL GEARBOX - WATER IN OIL - IS THERE A BREATHER??

Thank you so much for tipping me off to this, as you can see the gaiter is split and judging by the rust underneath it must have been letting in water for some time. The split would be impossible to see from underneath so removing the centre console and cover plate reveals all!

R380 MANUAL GEARBOX - WATER IN OIL - IS THERE A BREATHER??

Anyone got any ideas how water might have got into my Discovery 2 R380 manual gearbox? I drained the gearbox today and milky fluid came out which incidentally looked exactly the same as the guy on the YouTube video, link below, who waded way too deep in water went in the top of the gearbox...

    GEARBOX OIL COLOUR!!

I have drained it off now into an oil drain pan which I previously drained the transfer box oil into, the fluid from the gearbox has gone straight to the bottom, in other words the transfer box oil is floating on it – so definitely water the gearbox. The vehicle is new to me so the previous...

    GEARBOX OIL COLOUR!!

Its 32mm head plug - but you cant get a good socket or impact driver on it due to proximity of prop drive flange. However!! I did try heat carefully with a blowtorch , gently heating the surrounding casing, then a 32mm ring spanner on the nut and a wack with a copper head hammer and it shifted...

    GEARBOX OIL COLOUR!!

I think you are right, looks like emulsified oil doesn't it!

    GEARBOX OIL COLOUR!!

Checking the oils in my 2002 Discovery 2 TD5 today, manual gearbox, and I got some oil to flow out of the filler plug on the gearbox and it is to my view a very strange colour – see the picture below, ignore the gritty bits on the scraper, that was from cleaning around the filler plug. It's a...

BEST PAINT FOR WHEEL ARCH FLARES, TRIMS

The wheel arch flares on my Disco 2 are looking pretty shabby, somebody has previously painted them with I don't know what, they are almost a gloss finish – I would like to get them back to looking something like the original plastic matt finish after giving the current coating a thorough...
