I fitted stainless exhaust, retained the cat, and get fumes when back window open. Wasn't too bad last time but it's been too cold to drop the back window. I shall brave the cold tonite and see if it still smells.

Possible rear diff mount, there's 3 and the front one fails normally. Being under load means the extra force has to go somewhere.

Have you lost the earth connection anywhere?

The bolt in pic 4 a few or the other bolts are bolted to the cam cover on posts that have a tendancy to break and spew oil out. I've now left them out of mine after it broke and I glued the cam cover back together. I believe if the wrong bolt is used it can puncture the cam cover causing oil leak.

There's argument to keep the sponge filter, as it does filter any crud out. Easy enough to change every couple of oil changes.

I've always found it best to push down on the bonnet so there is no pressure load on the release mechanism rather than lever it upwards.

It would undo the filter housing bur possibly damage it. Get the socket as you'll need it every oil change.

When cranking do you hear a regular intermittent lower in speed as each cylinder gets to full compression or does it miss any out? Missed would indicate a drop in compression.

Running it in the dark and using a torch to see the smoke may help locate it. Is it deffo leaking?

Are you travelling at 88mph with1.2gigawatts of power, Marty? As the clock is standalone I'd say best bet to replace with second hand one.
