sounds like you need to check your shoes and adjust the linkage.

Conversion? Have you tried spacing the clutch slave cylinder away from the bell housing? I'm thinking you have no free play at the slave cylinder. Try undoing the bolts 3mm and then try again.

Towards the gearbox. The clutch plate normally has "flywheel side" on it, so you know which way round it should go.

Put a bit of brake fluid in the reservoir and slow operate the master cylinder, it might wash the bits out and save you from taking it apart.

Store it and get a new chassis.

I need to buy con rod bearings for my 300tdi, can any body tell me if this number is for a standard shell, erc 8841?

Has it got points and condenser? I'd start there, then move on to the plugs and leads.
