    Retrofit Low Fuel Warning Light?

I had a quick look while I was fitting the new sender and couldn't see one that looked like low fuel, but I will have a better look in the light of what you have said. Thanks.

Checklist for purchasing a new defender?

Thanks for this. I had often wondered why they were called such an odd name.

    Retrofit Low Fuel Warning Light?

The sender unit for later vehicles (after AA/BA243342) has three spade connectors on the top. On mine, the centre one is earth and the one towards the front is the feed to the gauge. The rearmost connector has a red blanking cap on it. I would guess this is for the low fuel warning. I...

    Have I got a lift?

The comparison (in my head) is with my old Ninety, and that may well have had saggy suspenders. Agreed, height is as per spec, so springs must be reasonably good.

    Have I got a lift?

I'd agree with that, in the main. One genuine reason to lift the suspension is if you want to fit much larger wheels (33" or bigger), but then you run the risk of the Tonka-toy look, which not everyone likes. I'm happy with things being standard, by and large. Land Rover had a long time to...

    Have I got a lift?

Feeling a bit stupid here :). The simplest way is to measure the overall height of the truck. Measurement from the ground to the top of the van back is ... 80". Exactly as per specifications. No lift, it's my imagination. Thanks for the responses.

    Have I got a lift?

Ok, rough measurements taken just now: Rear - axle to bump stop 135 mm, axle to chassis 195 mm Front - axle to bump stop 100 mm, axle to chassis 160 mm Axle measurement is taken from the welded plate which faces the bump stop. Any help welcome, thanks.

    Have I got a lift?

    Fair point, thanks.

    Have I got a lift?

New to me Defender 90 (1996) with 750 wheels and tyres. It looks and feels as though it might have had a suspension lift in the past. No markings on the springs or shocks that I can see. If there is any kind soul with a 90 on 750s who would be willing to pop outside and measure the vertical...

    Fuel guage problem

My fuel gauge was sticking at just below half - wouldn't go any lower. With the sender out of the tank, I could move it from empty to full and the gauge showed the full range too. Both apparently working correctly, but with the sender back in the tank it was sticking again. New sender cured it.

    Wiper delay relay?

Looking for a bit of advice regarding intermittent wiper function on 1996 90 300Tdi. Fast and slow speed wipers (up one and up two on the stalk) work fine and park correctly. One down on the stalk should be an intermittent wipe according to the handbook. However, pushing the stalk down gives a...

    Another cubby box thread ...

At the moment, it is secured by two rusty self-tappers. All I could reach to get back in. Ten minutes with a drill and half a dozen caphead bolts together with a journey underneath should sort it out properly. Thanks for all the suggestions.

    Another cubby box thread ...

It's hidden by the seat cushions, so the appearance doesn't really matter, but it just feels like a bodge :)

    Another cubby box thread ...

Ok, here's the bottom of the cubby box ... And here it is in position as recommended ... Still think it looks a bit wrong, and the box prevents me from tightening the screws holding the metal plate to the seatbox properly, but it's secure and at the right height, so all good. Thanks to all...

    Another cubby box thread ...

Yes I did, thanks. The box in the article has a flat bottom, whereas mine has this MDF square batten, which looks like it is designed to locate in a recess (coincidentally the same dimensions as the hole in the seatbox). Hence my confusion. Right, will do. Thanks.

    Another cubby box thread ...

So it shouldn't sit neatly in the hole in the seat box, but stand above it about an inch? Many thanks.

    Another cubby box thread ...

1996 Defender 90. The truck came to me with the middle seat missing and carpet over the metal plate in between the seats. I have bought a Britpart cubby box from Paddocks and it's not obvious how to fit it. The box has 4 MDF battens on the underside in the form of a square. If I rest the box...

    Trip meter not working

Thanks for the input. I was hoping it would be a common problem (on my last car, it happened all the time and it was just a matter of gluing a small wheel back on the speedo drive). Never mind - when I get a minute I will take the speedo out and have a look, and see if leaving the rubber cover...

    Trip meter not working

1996 90 300Tdi. Speedo works fine, although the needle is a bit wobbly. Odometer records overall distance correctly. Trip meter goes up to about 1.3 miles after a reset, and then stays there. Is it worth getting inside and seeing if it can be fixed, or is it a case of a) another from a...
