    Aerial question

No, not thinking of that. I'm thinking of fitting a CD/MP3 player with radio, and TBH I don't like the look of a normal aerial on a Land Rover. A rubber or whip aerial would give me the option of getting a CB set again - assuming anyone still uses it :) Thank you.

    Aerial question

Can I use a CB radio aerial (rubber duck or stinger type) as the aerial for a normal FM radio/CD player?

    Crazy fuel gauge

Thanks for that. Today, it is behaving completely normally. Yesterday, it was flickering about like the old Morris Minor ones used to, and generally waving between 1/2 and 3/4. Today, it is where I expect it, on the F mark and moving only slightly depending on whether I am going up or down...

    Crazy fuel gauge

Technical question, vehicle is 1996 D90 300Tdi. The signal from the fuel gauge sender is obviously variable with the fuel height, and goes up and down according to how the fuel sloshes about in the tank. The fuel gauge, however, should show a steady reading. The signal is somehow damped. Is...

    Anyone good with locks?

    OK, thanks.

    Anyone good with locks?

Being completely lazy, I tried flooding it with WD-40 and working the latch for about ten minutes, until WD was running out of the door bottom. Unfortunately no luck, which was the point I decided to order a new one. I am going to take the old one apart to see what was wrong. Hoping I'm not...

NOW he tells me! Cheers :)

    Anyone good with locks?

Thanks for rubbing it in! I followed pretty much the same sequence. The main problem I had was getting the old lock out from the door frame, and the new one into position. Haynes said to remove the external handle, which would certainly have helped. But it definitely wasn't 'undo two screws...

    Anyone good with locks?

Well, that was a bear of a job :) It didn't help that I had to work in a steady drizzle, and it took way longer than 20 minutes! New lock is now fitted and working. Haynes was a good guide, but had a few errors, or at least the pics and text referred to different doors from mine. I totally...

    Anyone good with locks?

    Good to hear!

    Anyone good with locks?

I'll bear this in mind, thanks. The door seems straight and the panel gaps are correct (for Solihull values of correct), but who knows? I've had the door card off and examined the lock and handle rods as they are working, and they seem to be free enough. (I had a similar issue with the remote...

    French driving.

Some good advice here. I could add: 1. The priorite a droite rule was universal, but was abolished a long time ago. Main roads have yellow lozenges along the route, indicating that the main road has priority (same as here). This seems to be adhered to pretty well; the only places anyone has...

    Anyone good with locks?

Don't think I have ever used Allmakes. This one is a Bearmach part. I've always found them OK.

    Anyone good with locks?

Noted, thanks. Have ordered from a firm called Total Parts (http://www.totalparts.co.uk/) which had the best price of £26.09 incl VAT delivered. Genuine would have been around £85 ... great, but no thanks. I'm off all next week, so should have it sorted then. Thanks to all for the advice and...

    Anyone good with locks?

I have plenty of those, and the right Torx bits for the lock. Thanks for the reassurance! Will order tonight.

    Skytag

Am I right in thinking that these devices which rely on a GPS position will need sight of the sky where they are mounted? That would reduce the options for where it goes. Inside a metal box welded to the chassis wouldn't work, I would guess. I have a few good ideas for where it can go when I...

    Anyone good with locks?

I want to change them, if it is straightforward, so I don't need to carry an extra key. If it's a massive ache in the nuts, I won't bother. I am expecting to have fun with the actuating rods. I replaced the lock in the tailgate of a RRC once, and I don't want to do that again for a hundred...

    Anyone good with locks?

The catch moves quite easily, but against firm spring pressure. Sometimes it will latch into the correct position, but is easily nudged open again. Other times it won't stay closed at all. Then the other night it closed correctly and stayed closed against me hanging off the handle! The...

    Anyone good with locks?

Newish (to me) 1996 Defender 90, 300Tdi. Passenger door lock was working perfectly until, one night, it wouldn't latch closed. Just bounced open again, no matter how hard you slammed it. There is a semicircular latching piece visible in the lock edge, and this should be knocked over by the...

    Retrofit Low Fuel Warning Light?

Now slightly baffled, after having a proper look. From Google, I am guessing that the low fuel warning light is a yellow petrol pump icon. There is definitely nothing like this on my dash panel. However, while I was in Google Images, I saw an image labelled 'late 200Tdi wiring loom...
