    "Sound proofing"

Thanks Jim. I've ordered 2mm silent coat- cheaper than dynamat and they imply it has more butyl in it. Once I've got the silent coat in I will figure what goes on top. Did you hit the closed cell on top of the silent coat? And what thickness did you use? I'd like a bit of carpet in places to...

    "Sound proofing"

Thanks for this. I was going to go for Noisekiller but they use open cell foam as part of their construction. Open cell = sponge and I have way too much water inside mine to risk having a sponge lol

    Look no headlining

Thanks Flossie. I hadn't thought of the mirror idea but that will make it much easier to see.

    Raining cats and dogs

Thanks Jim. I bought some butyl based stuff that sounds similar. It's a bit like grown up blue tack!

    Raining cats and dogs

Thanks Tony. I removed the headlining today but have parked downhill and so am not expecting any water tonight, though the rain is forecast to be quite special! I've also put some sikaflex 221 on the external gutter over the safari door. Will keep you posted.

    "Sound proofing"

I thought it was about time I chipped in with some help for others... I have been looking at options to reduce the noise levels inside my Defender. Let's be honest - it's about reduction not sound proofing. If you want a quiet vehicle buy a Nissan Leaf. Now there is a lot of info about...

    Raining cats and dogs

Well I replaced then about two weeks ago and I'm vicar/chemical engineer, not an auto glass technician! That said, they are a good tight fit and so I am pretty confident that they are a good fit. I also can't feel any water in the gutter directly below them. I'm increasingly thinking that the...

    Raining cats and dogs

Thanks Lightning. On mine the water is def collecting in the internal gutters which are higher than the door seals. The water pours (and I do mean pours) out from the edge of the headlining. Yesterday there was so much that it gushed out along about 1m/3ft of the edge of the headlining on the...

    Raining cats and dogs

Thanks Woodcote. I have done pretty much what you suggest back in June but I couldn't find the leak. I will however be trying it again!

    Raining cats and dogs

Thanks Dippypud. I don't have a roof aerial but I will pay close attention to the corner seems of the roof. Thanks for the tip.

    Raining cats and dogs

now before anyone states the obvious, I know pretty much every defender leaks but I have been trying to get to the bottom of a fairly serious leak in the roof of my 2003 td5 110. So far I have - replaced all the door seals (just in case) - replaced the alpine seals (they were shot) - sealed the...

Have a laugh at my expense

I'm fairly convinced that most of the water now getting in (when the vents are closed lol) is coming in at the join between the roof and the windscreen frame. I've sealed all the roof seams with sikaflex and replaced all the door seals and the alpine window seals so there isn't much left. When...

    Alarm issues

That's a good question re diagnostics

    Alarm issues

I agree it feels expensive. All the alarm does is makes a quiet ticking sound inside the vehicle. No lights flashing or siren. The immobiliser simply doesn't seem to be active. I have a landy hero in a independent garage who will tackle pretty much anything except the alarm.

    Alarm issues

I have a 2003 110 which was factory fitted with an alarm/immobiliser. The alarm doesn't work and I'm not convinced the immobiliser does either. I've tried a few local alarm specialists and no one is interested in even looking. The local LR dealer wants £95 just to look, plus whatever it takes...

Have a laugh at my expense

So I've been trying to find out where the water has been coming into my 110 for almost a year now. Last night I parked it downhill to find out if it is coming in at the join between the roof and the windscreen and came out today to find the passenger footwell full of water. Really should have...

    Landy Rescue

We traveled a long way but north and east - Soroti was the furthest town we got to. It was about 600 miles in 6 and a bit days on roads made for ladies but not for the mini-van we were travelling in lol!

    Landy Rescue

I was in Kampala, Uganda last week and saw these Landies as tow trucks. I also saw a Defender Puma heading straight for me at high speed on the way to the airport as we drove at high speed down the wrong side of the road towards it but that is a whole other story!

    LED DRL Failure

Much appreciated. It's very odd because only the RHS ever fails.
