Disco 2 Compressor piston kit - help

I´m trying to exhaust all possibilities before thinking of buying a new one. I know the Hitachi units are a bit more complex to fix - not a lot of success fixing those. The Wabco is just a glorified air pump, to be honest.

Watched the video @gstuart shared and at the end there are a few more, amongst which was this one: The guy even replaced the compressor head!

I think it comes away from the body together with the piston cover, but not really sure how to empty it. @brianconwy said he did it in situ, but I can´t see how.

That´s the one I knew of, yes. Can´t understand how to drop the old silica out though (never done it before)

Whoosh noise when cold and accelerating

After changing my viscous fan yesterday, I started the car this morning and as I accelerate, a loud "whoosh" sound was coming from the engine bay. I thought it could be a vaccum leak of some kind, but it disappears after less than a minute and didn´t return all day. Never heard this noise...

Can´t seem to find this video... Is this the same for changing the piston ring? No mention of swapping out the silica gel in the air dryer.

Disco 2 Compressor piston kit - help

Thanks Brian, very helpful. Hopefully the car won´t drop with me under it :D I got the original P38 air filter elements which apparently are a straight fit. Silica gel kit is this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281769623406

They did not change the dessicant in the air dryer. It´s actually in the post, together with the air filter element. Should arrive any day now. Like I said, they seemed very reluctant to do it, so asking them to change the dessicant would probably be met with a "nah mate, you need a new...

Brian Do I run the risk of the compressor running with the engine off? Don´t want to have a dead battery when I return to it...

Disco 2 Compressor piston kit - help

That's the kind of results I was expecting, but got nowhere near that. It was actually better before, only noisier. I don't have access to a diag unit anymore, not since we moved. If I could lift the car with the ORM button, I could get a couple of axle stands and inspect it myself. Something...

They told me they removed it from the car to work on it. Can't understand what happened.

Disco 2 Compressor piston kit - help

So, after changing the piston ring today (got it from X8R), the suspension no longer raises on the dash button. The light keeps blinking, but it does not raise. Car is level and it seems that the compressor is doing its job when driving, but I´m baffled by this. Compressor used to run fine...

    My disco build thread.

Lol. Same here. There´s always something. And if there isn´t, I make something up, otherwise it starts to feel weird. :D

Thanks Steve. You´re one of those guys everyone wants be be mates with. I´ll get one of those ordered ASAP. Hope your Disco is still alive and well! :)

    My disco build thread.

Hi Steve. Sorry to revive an old post, but what "stuff" did you use for the air drier? Did you need any new seals after you changed it? I´m reviving my compressor at the moment. Piston ring and air filter is done, but I might come back to it and change the material inside the air drier too...

Disco 2 Climate control blowing BOTH hot and cold air

Thanks @Landmark2 I actually changed my sensor just a couple of weeks ago and also cleaned the blower´s hamster wheel (filthy, filled with fossilised insects, twigs and bits of the cabin "pollen filter"). The old sensor, even though I removed it and thoroughly cleaned it, was still noisy from a...

Disco 2 Climate control blowing BOTH hot and cold air

Ours works well on manual, but auto does this hot/cold mix which I've not experienced with any other vehicle. I'm thinking some mix flap motor is knackered, but then again, it would always throw cold air out if this was the case.

Disco 2 Climate control blowing BOTH hot and cold air

After a fairly long run today, I noticed that the footwell vents were blowing hot air, whereas the dash vents were blowing cold air. Temperature was set to 23°C and outside temp was 12° Climate was set to full auto, both for air direction and fan speed. To test it, I increased temp to 28°C...
