    Passenger door lock

I have a Defender TD5 XS 2004. While on holiday last week-noticed that the lock in the front passenger door handle is missing. The 2 middle handles have blanking plugs and the driver handle has the normal key thingy. Now my question is- should the front passenger door have a key bit or a...

Will go and measure this evening. No-hope to run normal tires.

    Low tow bar

I have a 110 TD5 with a factory fitted tow bar. It seems to be quite low. Not the movable plate, but the fixed brackets that attach to the back cross member and attaches to the 2 arms that attaches to the chassis further forward. As I will be using it in Namibia on very rough roads, am wondering...

    ? Nanocom

All my experience up to now has been with Series Landies. Have now ventured into tomorrow and bought a 2004 TD5 Defender XS. I am now trying to get to grips with all the electronics. It seems that having some form of device/computer to access/clear fault codes, etc. is needed. Also quite...

    Aircon fan

Nice to have proper hot weather-aircon fan came on as it should. All OK.

    Aircon fan

Thanks for that-will give it a twirl tonight. Also what are your thoughts about replacing the viscous fan with a Revotek unit ? They are just a few miles down the road from me. I am looking for optimal cooling as will be taking the beasty out to Namibia for a protracted sabbatical from work...

    Aircon fan

When should the fan be running? Even when engine warm it does not run. How do I know it is functioning prpperly? Any insight would be appreciated. Also what is the perceived benefits of an electric main engine fan ipo the heavy viscous monster?

    Boomslang loom

I am in the process of fitting this loom to sort out the stalk switch issues. Am also adapting loom to make leads longer so that I can bring the wires around the bulkhead rather than across the rad. Hoping to attach the relays somewhere between air inlet duct and front of wing. Has anybody found...

    Headlight relay

Thanks for that. Now my question is- would it benefit from the Boomslang harness ?

    Headlight relay

I have always understood that it was only in the very late Defenders that a relay was fitted. Before that the full current went through the stalk switch with all the well known problems associated with that. Usually solved with a " Boomslang" kit. Now I see that there is a headlight relay in the...

    Getting older.

I have 2 Landrovers- a 1981 Series 3 21/4 petrol. Took this one to Africa in early 2000s and did a 15 000 mile round trip of southern Africa. Only mechanical problem was a blown head gasket for which I had a spare. Did this with wife and 3 kids 4, 7, 11. Marriage just about survived. I Have now...

    EGR solonoid.

It takes about 15 minutes to replace it if exhaust manifold bolts are well copper greased. Can fit pipe with blanking plate as a “gasket” and also remove butterfly from valve itself tp reduce restriction.

    EGR solonoid.

Anycase- delete done and immediate improvement in performance and smoothness. Egr valve and intake manifold fairly clean. Then Tune+ and even better! Chalk and cheese! Next stop upgraded oil pump as per German landrover engineer friend.

    EGR solonoid.

    Thanks Sierrafery.

    EGR solonoid.

Yes, there will always be some oil from the turbo, but much more sludge and carbon build-up above and in EGR valve as diesel smoke is pretty horrible stuff.

    EGR solonoid.

Your reply seems a bit combatative-any reason ? It seems a bit STUPID to remove a necessary component and comparing it to a useless "big brother" component.
  18. L

    EGR solonoid.

Generally accepted that breathing oily, smoky exhaust fumes bad for engine and reduces longevity. Gums up intake manifold and sensor. Not fitted to rest of world spec and will be taking this landy to do circular rout of southern Africa.

    EGR solonoid.

I fitted the EGR blanking kit to my 2005 TD5 last night. Blanked off the vacuum pipes to EGR and unplugged electric plugs to 2 solenoids. Advice on the net seems to be conflicting: some say that ECU will now realise that EGR not available and adjust accordingly. Other people do not mention...
